Michael Oliver is under the spotlight for some controversial refereeing calls during Man City vs Arsenal. So much so, that even a Man United legend has chimed in.

It's the consistency which hurts isn't it, Arsenal fans? It feels like a broken record, but Michael Oliver's poor treatment of the Man City vs Arsenal match this weekend showed that, yet again, it is one rule for 19 Premier League teams and a different rule for Man City.

The game was difficult to manage. This is to be expected, given the heated nature of the Premier League and what this game could already mean for the outcome of the Premier League title race.

All in all, the important factor is that the game finished with both sides sharing points. It is just a shame that the talking point isn't the quality of football on display, but instead controversial refereeing, yet again.

Man United legend slams Michael Oliver for ruining Man City vs Arsenal

Of all the scathing analyses of Michael Oliver's conduct this weekend, there is one which sticks out like a sore thumb. Man United legend Peter Schmeichel did not hold back in his discourse.

According to GIVEMESPORT, Peter Schmeichel has indicated that Michael Oliver tried his hardest to make the title race more interesting with his decision-making.

In his own words, Schmeichel said: "Michael Oliver is doing everything he can to make this race for everyone. This is the biggest game in the Premier League so far! Soft yellow cards!"

Continuing, Schmeichel made it clear that he felt Michael Oliver ruined the game at the weekend. If it wasn't already obvious, the former goalkeeper was not pleased with Oliver.

Schmeichel continued: "Why is Michael Oliver trying to ruin it? It's a big game, emotions are flying high — understand what you are dealing with here, but no — Michael Oliver wants himself in the spotlight!"

It is safe to say that Schmeichel is speaking for every Arsenal fan here. It is not rocket science to say that Arsenal deserved to win. They were a better team, even without their captain and even after going down to ten men.

Of all people who could speak for Arsenal fans, nobody expected it to be Peter Schmeichel. After all, he is a Man United legend and played during the prime era of the Arsenal vs Man United rivalry.

Again, I risk sounding like a broken record here. There needs to be rules in place which mandate consistency in decision-making to every team. Alas, we will await yet another meaningless apology.
