Good morning, Arsenal fans. Had a good weekend?

There was something quite magical about the sound of "One nil to the Arsenal" ringing through North London yesterday. It's a chant which has serenaded the Arsenal players for many decades but it never sounds sweeter than it being at the expense of Tottenham.

Whenever the North London Derby comes around, the whole world stops and watches. It's a rivalry which has stemmed throughout history and there is plenty of magic which remains in the fixture, even in the changing magnititude of the game.

So much so, that even a Real Madrid official was in the stands. Real Madrid sent out their chief scout to watch the North London Derby, for two reasons.

Real Madrid scout watched Arsenal beat Tottenham for two reasons

According to a report from talkSPORT, Real Madrid sent their chief scout to watch Arsenal beat Tottenham as they have their eye on two defensive targets. The scout was in attendance to watch William Saliba of Arsenal and Cristian Romero of Tottenham Hotspur.

It is unlikely that Real Madrid will pursue either player this season but they have their eye on 2025 pursuits. After all, the nature of Real Madrid's defence is ageing, something Carlo Ancelotti must address.

Reading between the lines, the Real Madrid scout would have been most impressed with William Saliba. Even away from home, the Ballon d'Or contender remained composed and was one of the best players on the pitch.

Cristian Romero, on the other hand, was abysmal. For the only goal of the game, Romero was at fault. He was distracted and allowed Gabriel to get away, with the Arsenal defender scoring the winning goal.

At this stage, Arsenal are not concerned about Real Madrid's transfer interest in William Saliba. After all, Real Madrid might be the best club in the world but the Frenchman is by no means unhappy at Arsenal.

Arsenal have given Saliba the pedestal to become one of the best defenders in the world. This is recognised by the fact he's been nominated for the Ballon d'Or.

In fact, if the Ballon d'Or award was ever kind to defenders in this day and age, Saliba would be a genuine shout for the honour.

Alas, William Saliba is a big part of Arsenal's future. Until he shows even the most minuscule sign of discontent at Arsenal, fans will not be flagging Real Madrid's pursuit.
