A trip to the home of the champions certainly isn't what this Arsenal team need off the back of Champions League heartbreak.

The Gunners teased a comeback in Paris on Wednesday night but were ultimately thwarted by an excellent Gianluigi Donnarumma performance (and some errant finishing of their own). As a result, Mikel Arteta will not be leading Arsenal to their maiden Champions League triumph in Munich, and a bleak end to the season could be upon us.

Sunday's tussle with Liverpool had been billed as a potential title decider at the start of the year, but Arsenal's demise over the spring, with our continental ventures taking priority, means the upcoming bout is on the brink of a dead rubber. Still, it's a game Arteta will be keen to win to raise spirits.

Here's how Arsenal could line up at Anfield.

Goalkeeper & Defenders

David Raya (GK) - With three games to go, Raya remains in Golden Glove contention but it'll likely require a couple of huge performances to usurp Matz Sels.

Ben White (RB) - I'm okay with offering Jurrien Timber some respite. He's earned it. White played at centre-back in the reverse fixture, but could be used in a role he's grown very familiar with over the past few years on Sunday.

William Saliba (CB) - Andrea Berta is bringing Saliba to the negotiating table amid Real Madrid transfer talk. Good news. Saliba, who hasn't performed all that well as of late, will remain in the XI until the season's end.

Jakub Kiwior (CB) - Kiwior may well have saved his Arsenal career over these past few weeks. In Gabriel's absence, the Pole has served us well.

Riccardo Calafiori (LB) - Myles Lewis-Skelly endured the toughest night of his senior career on Wednesday, and Arteta could welcome the fit-again Calafiori to his XI. The Italian will match up against Mohamed Salah and aim to make the most of his lack of defensive effort.

Midfielders

Thomas Partey (DM) - Partey didn't turn out to be the Messiah in Paris, and was arguably to blame for both PSG goals. Nevertheless, he'll likely be retained at the base of midfield here.

Declan Rice (CM) - Oh, how things could've been different had Rice found the top corner with his early header. The Englishman has primarily been used in the more advanced role against better oppositon, and that's unlikely to change at Anfield.

Martin Odegaard (CM) - The captain started brightly in midweek before fading out of the contest. Arteta has said Ethan Nwaneri will enjoy more minutes during Arsenal's remaining three games, but the teenager's unlikely to start over Odegaard on Sunday.

Forwards

Bukayo Saka (RW) - Saka must've replayed that miss thousands and thousands of times over in his head since Arsenal's Champions League exit was confirmed. Still, he performed well in Paris and will be looking to upstage Mohamed Salah at Anfield.

Mikel Merino (ST) - Arteta will likely retain Merino as his focal point on Sunday, with Liverpool's centre-backs previously having issues against strikers who like to drop in. Arsenal can manipulate the hosts' midfield to find Merino constantly and get upfield.

Leandro Trossard (LW) - Trossard was a bright performer off the bench on Wednesday and could find himself back in the side despite Gabriel Martinelli's capacity to threaten in transition.
