PSG vs Arsenal: Final injury update before crunch second leg in Paris

Arsenal are well aware of the challenge at their disposal in the French capital on Wednesday night, but Mikel Arteta's men should be emboldened by the potential to make history.

What promised to be a grand occasion at the Emirates last week fell flat from a Gunners perspective, as Ousmane Dembele's early goal sucked the life out of the north Londoners, who took a while to get a grips with the swashbuckling Parisians.

However, their deficit is just a single goal, and Arteta's squad were served another reminder that this competition very rarely conjures up the predictable on Tuesday night as Inter escaped from an all-time great semi-final that refused to offer viewers a moment's rest.

Chaos works in Arsenal's favour here given that they're the team chasing, and boosts on the injury front should offer greater hope of the Gunners completing the comeback in Paris.

Gooners have been keeping a close eye on Ousmane Dembele's status over the past week. The first-leg match-winner was forced off midway through the second half with a hamstring issue, and although the man himself, Luis Enrique, and Achraf Hakimi were confident that the Frenchman hadn't done any significant damage, hamstring issues are very rarely quick fixes.

Nevertheless, Dembele has been back in PSG training since Monday, and Enrique confirmed that his rejuvenated forward will be available for the second leg. Dembele will likely continue as PSG's false nine, making up a third of their majestic front three with Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Desire Doue.

The only first teamer missing from the Spaniard's matchday squad is Presnel Kimpembe. Once regarded as one of Europe's most promising centre-halves, the French defender suffered a devastating Achilles injury which kept him out of action for almost two years. He returned earlier this year, but has played no more than a peripheral role for the Ligue 1 champions.

It's believed that Kimpembe will now miss the rest of the season due to a foot injury.

Arsenal have lost Gabriel, Gabriel Jesus, and Takehiro Tomiyasu for the season, but Kai Havertz could return before the season's end. If the Gunners advance in Paris, the German should be available for the final.

Arteta has Thomas Partey to call upon after he missed the first leg through suspension, and veteran Jorginho could supply an alternative option off the bench. The Italian has been out of action for close to a month with a complex lung issue, but he's working his way back to fitness. However, unlike Jurrien Timber and Riccardo Calafiori, he wasn't spotted in training on Tuesday.

Timber and Calafiori's involvement yesterday was significant. The pair have travelled across the English Channel and are certain to be involved. Timber's been dealing with a knock he sustained in the first leg, missing Saturday's defeat to Bournemouth, while Calafiori has been out since the March international break with a knee injury.

The Italian defender has a role to play off the bench in Paris, while Timber should match up against Kvaratskhelia down Arsenal's right flank.
