Riccardo Calafiori was essentially without a position against Burnley. He was here, there, and everywhere. In normal circumstances, Arsenal fans are used to him bombing forward with freedom, but today against Burnley, he was a winger first, defender second.
Arsenal have many question marks about their defence between now and the end of the season, but one thing nobody can fault them for is their players' ability to step up and fill a role. Where Arsenal needed to score a first-half goal in tonight's game to ease the nerves (it still didn't ease the nerves, did it?), Calafiori put on his creative boots.
A lot of Arsenal's play flowed through the left-flank, which was a rarity to see. Usually, with Bukayo Saka and Jurriën Timber/Ben White, the play is mostly focused on the right side of defence, but it was different tonight.
Cristhian Mosquera made the lineup, and as we all know, the connection between him and Saka isn't quite the same as that which the starboy shares with Timber or White.
Where Mosquera lacks, though, Calafiori stepped up to fill the void.
Riccardo Calafiori could play a more attacking role against PSG
If Jurriën Timber misses out on the Champions League final, it would be a big loss, and it would force Mikel Arteta into adapting his playing style. Simply put, the right channel isn't nearly as fluid with both White and Timber out of the equation, so Calafiori will have a big role to play in the Champions League final.
Riccardo Calafiori created an impressive three chances for Arsenal tonight. By the time he was subbed off (72nd minute), this was the joint most chances created in the match.
Ironically, it was Bukayo Saka on the other wing who created the chance for Havertz to score, but Calafiori's involvement in the attacking play must not be overlooked.
What this win means for Arsenal
Now, the Gunners move to five points clear in the table, with one game to play. Man City still have two games to play, but Arsenal removed one obstacle from their path to their first Premier League trophy in over two decades.
With Crystal Palace involved in a European final, it is easy to assume the Eagles will gift Arsenal a route to Premier League glory on final day. This is a myth for fans to entertain, but hopefully Arsenal players won't entertain it.
This week, Arsenal have the opportunity to win the Premier League trophy. We never thought we'd be saying that when the Gunners surrendered three points to Man City last month.
