Arsenal fans are still divided over Noni Madueke. To make matters worse, a player who should've been signed instead might be Spurs-bound...
Look, it's still far too early for Arsenal fans to rule out Noni Madueke. He hasn't kicked a ball officially for the club yet, and who knows? He could go on to a be a world-beater at the Emirates Stadium. Stranger things have happened.
However, you can forgive Arsenal fans for being sceptical here. After all, signings from Chelsea have hardly given any reassurance to the Gunners in the past. This, partnered with his reputation of being a better right-winger than left-winger leaves Arsenal fans with little to be excited about.
Spurs might be strengthening their front line
To rub salt into the wounds, an immediate upgrade is hiding in plain sight. Where might he be headed? Tottenham, that's where.
That's right, according to journalist Sebastien Vidal, Spurs are now keen on signing Jacob Ramsey. He would be an alternative to Xavi Simons, who looks set to find a new club this summer.
The worst possible situation for Arsenal is for Spurs to sign Jacob Ramsey. While it would hurt any Arsenal fan to admit, Ramsey would be a signing that improves Spurs.
I know, not great. What's worse is that he's a signing that would've made more sense for Arsenal than Noni Madueke. That's in hindsight, of course.
Jacob Ramsey might have been signed over Noni Madueke
See, Jacob Ramsey plays in a position which is of higher concern to Arsenal: left-wing. This, in part, added to the confusion of signing Noni Madueke, best position being right-wing.
Mikel Arteta might have a plan to use Madueke in a different position. After all, he's versatile enough to do that, but right now, it looks more likely that he's signed as a Bukayo Saka backup. That's fine, of course, but it was a hefty investment to play a player out of his strongest position.
Furthermore, Ramsey already has Champions League experience. That's an understatement. He burst onto the scene with his Champions League displays for Aston Villa last season.
If Arsenal are the lucky beneficiaries that sign Xavi Simons, then Jacob Ramsey will be a distant memory. However, unless that happens, Andrea Berta should seriously be threatened by the ugly possibility of Ramsey joining Tottenham.
