Arsenal will look to make it four wins out of four when they travel to Sunderland in the Premier League this weekend. The Gunners have won every competitive game so far this season, having also claimed victory in the Community Shield and in the Champions League against Napoli on Wednesday night.

As for Sunderland, they have had a mixed start to the campaign. The Black Cats suffered defeat to Ipswich Town on the opening day of the season. However, they bounced back from this with a win over Fulham. This was followed by a draw with Brentford. Sunderland were also in action this week, defeating Hull City in the EFL Cup.

Arsenal comfortably beat the Black Cats on both occasions during the 2016/17 campaign. Sanchez was the Gunners' star player at the time, and he bagged a brace in both games. That season, Sunderland finished bottom of the Premier League and were therefore relegated.

Sunderland then had a spell down in League One as well as the Championship before returning to the Premier League last season. Therefore, they only met the Gunners once during their time outside the Premier League. This was in an EFL Cup quarter-final match in 2021, which Arsenal won 5-1. Nketiah, who now plays for Crystal Palace scored a hat-trick that day.

The Black Cats impressed in their first season back in the Premier League and finished seventh, which qualified them for the Europa League. Former Gunners captain Granit Xhaka was key to their success, and he was even linked with a move to Chelsea over the summer.

Sunderland claimed a 2-2 draw at the Stadium of Light last year; this was thanks to a late goal from Brian Brobbey. However, the Gunners won the return fixture at the Emirates 3-0, with Gyokeres scoring a brace.

The Gunners are heavy favourites to win this weekend, especially after defeating the much-fancied Chelsea last week. Martin Odegaard did not have the best of seasons individually last season. However, his World Cup performances with Norway have rejuvenated him. Odegaard has scored in Arsenal's last two matches, and his fine form is expected to continue.

Arsenal strengthened over the summer, signing the likes of Bruno Guimaraes, Ezri Konsa and Christos Tzolis. However, they did let both Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli go. Therefore, they will need Odegaard to be making more goal contributions.
