Rodri admitted Arsenal might be 'too far' for Manchester City to catch after his team drew 1-1 at West Ham on Saturday evening.
Rodri and Manchester City's week went from bad to worse after losing the first leg of their round of 16 clash against Real Madrid in the Champions League. They then drew with relegation battlers West Ham in London, losing further ground in the Premier League title race.
Arsenal, on the other hand, had won their game in the dying minutes through a Max Dowman masterclass, and are now nine points ahead of Manchester City.
Although City have a game in hand, even if they win it, they would still be six points behind the league leaders, and with only seven games left after their game in hand is played, things are looking a little bleak for them.
The brutal Rodri quote that proves Arsenal are clear title favorites
Rodri was asked about the title race, and although he was clear that Manchester City will be fighting till the very end, his quote made it seem like Manchester City are close to accepting defeat, unless something drastic happens.
He said: "We know it’s going to be difficult because we have this experience of what you need to win at the end. I think the distance is too far, but we’re going to fight until the end. Now is a moment of no regrets.”
It is a fair assessment. Manchester City being six points behind the league leaders with just under two months left for the league to finish makes it seem like a really, really difficult task, and Rodri knows that. He knows it is not impossible. He knows that if they fight until the end there is a small chance they win the league, but it is unlikely.
Obviously, Arsenal and Manchester City are set to face each other at least two more times this season. Once in the Carabao Cup, and another in the Premier League - which would be a huge, huge test of character for not just Manchester City, but also Arsenal.
Obviously, if Arsenal win the final, that will give them a sense of accomplishment and confidence that they are able to beat Manchester City and win trophies, and that could certainly lead to an even better run towards the end of the season, psychologically speaking.
However, if they were to lose that, or, in the worst case, lose the game in the Premier League too, that will do the same to Manchester City.
For them, things will still be tough because they would need to win every possible game while also hoping Arsenal drop points at least once, but you can never rule that out.
For Arsenal, the aim is clear: win every game, by any means imaginable, if they do that, the title is theirs. The same cannot be said about Manchester City anymore.
