For Arsenal to beat Manchester City to a Premier League title, they had to get everything right. This is no more so the case than when it comes to recruitment, and it appears as though they did just that. Perhaps setting Christian Nørgaard and Kepa Arrizabalaga aside from a moment, the other six who have made their debuts for the club this season have all played their part in a major way.

In fact, between the six, they have contributed 47 goals. This, according to Harvey Downes of Opta, is the most by any group of players during their debut campaign at the club since the 1899/1900 campaign. Back then, those new recruits scored 48 times, which is a record the current crop of Gunners can match or potentially even surpass in Budapest on Saturday.

Goals scored by Arsenal's debutants 2025/26

  • Viktor Gyökeres: 21 goals.
  • Eberechi Eze: 10 goals.
  • Noni Madueke: 8 goals.
  • Martín Zubimendi: 6 goals.
  • Piero Hincapié: 1 goal.
  • Max Dowman: 1 goal.

This modern-day record was broken because Noni Madueke was the match-winner prior to the trophy lift at Selhurst Park against Crystal Palace on Sunday. Eberechi Eze meantime has got into double figures while, despite often being ridiculed, Viktor Gyökeres' tally of 21 is impressive.

So, in which other recent seasons have Arsenal's new recruits scored a lot of goals?

It is very rare for this many Arsenal new recruits to contribute so many goals in their debut campaign. The previous modern-day record was held by the class of 2012/13, with Olivier Giroud, Łukasz Podolski, Santi Cazorla and Nacho Monreal accumulating 46 between them that year.

Well, counting Max Dowman as a new recruit, he did make his senior debut against Leeds in August, then this tally has been surpassed this season. So now, can they overtake the all-time Arsenal record set 126 years ago? Well, it remains to be seen if any of them will start the Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain at the Puskás Aréna.

Arteta might go with Riccardo Calafiori at left-back, Myles Lewis-Skelly in midfield, captain Martin Ødegaard as the number ten and Kai Havertz in attack. This would see Hincapié, Zubimendi, Eze and Gyökeres all begin the evening in Budapest among the substitutes.

That though is far from certain and, even if it was the case, that does not mean they would have no role to play. The clash with PSG could go beyond the usual 90 minutes, so Arteta is going to need everyone. Who will step forward and prove to be the Hungarian hero?
