Will Arsenal continue their excellent start to this Champions League campaign? Following wins over Napoli and then Lille, as well as an entertaining 2-2 draw with Bayern Munich, Mikel Arteta's team are well placed to once again finish in the top eight, seeking to end up as high as possible.

Well, as was the case on 4 November last year, the Gunners will take on Slavia Prague at the Fortuna Arena. Back then, Bukayo Saka opened the scoring from the penalty spot, before Mikel Merino's double secured a 3-0 victory over Jindřich Trpišovský's team.

The chances of a repeat outcome seem likely, considering Arsenal's imperious record against Czech clubs.

Arsenal vs Czech club head-to-head record

  • Matches Played: 11.
  • Arsenal Wins: 9. Draws: 2. Czech Clubs Wins: Zero.
  • Arsenal Goals Scored: 30. Arsenal Goals Conceded: 3.

To date, Arsenal have met clubs from the Czech First League 11 times, winning nine and drawing two of them, scoring a whopping 30 goals and conceding only three. All of these clashes have come against Prague's big two, namely Sparta and Slavia, with the two matches they've to date failed to win against the Slavists.

There have been some memorable moments too. In October 2007, Arsène Wenger's team hammered Slavia 7-0 in North London, their joint-biggest margin of victory in a European game, and most emphatic in the Champions League.

Two seasons before, Thierry Henry's double at Stadion Letná against Sparta saw him become the club's all-time record goal-scorer, surpassing Ian Wright's record.

Overall, there are only 11 nations that Arsenal have faced a club from in UEFA competition and never lost, with Czech outfits very much at the top of this list.

As documented, Czech opposition is one of only five countries Arsenal have faced more than twice and never suffered defeat. It is currently joint-top alongside Turkish outfits for most matches played without ever losing, albeit the Gunners were beaten by Galatasaray in the 2000 UEFA Cup Final on penalties at Parken, that officially registered as a draw.

Nevertheless, assuming they avoid defeat against Slavia Prague, Czech teams would become the outright record holders in this regard. Well, considering Jindřich Trpišovský's team are without a win in 18 European matches, this does seem likely.

So far this season, the Slavists were first beaten 3-2 by Lens at home, despite leading going in stoppage time. Since then, they have also been defeated 2-0 by debutants Sabah at the Bakı Olimpiya Stadionu, before fighting back from two down to earn a draw with Fenerbahçe; Lukáš Provod and Pavel Kačor on target at Şükrü Saracoğlu Stadium.

Nevertheless, while taking nothing for granted, Fleetwood underlined one can never do that, Arsenal should cruise to victory.
