Former Arsenal player Thierry Henry believes that the loss to PSG will only push the Gunners closer to success in the future.

Arsenal were good enough to reach the Champions League final for the first time in 20 years, but the Premier League champions were not able to go the full distance as PSG beat them in a penalty shootout following a 1-1 draw.

Arsenal had a very defensive game plan after scoring the opening goal, sitting back and absorbing every ounce of pressure that PSG sent their way.

Ultimately, PSG got their equaliser through a penalty after Cristhian Mosquera fouled Khvicha Kvaratskhelia inside the 18-yard box.

The match ended up going to penalties, where Arsenal lost due to misses from Eberechi Eze and Gabriel Magalhães.

Henry spoke about how failure helps the best teams win in the future and how important it is to feel the sadness after a heart-wrenching loss in order to come back stronger at some point down the line.

He said: “People don't like to embrace failure, and this is not failure, that is a great season for Arsenal Football Club. You came short against an outstanding team, you pushed them all the way. But failure helps you win so make sure you feel it and don't keep it too much, but we'll be back.”

Henry is spot on with his analysis. Many of the dynasties that modern football has seen, from Real Madrid to PSG, endured failure before reaching the top.

Real Madrid lost to Bayern Munich in the semi-finals of the 2011-12 Champions League and then to Borussia Dortmund in the 2012-13 semi-finals.

PSG themselves endured years of disappointment through semi-final exits, final heartbreaks and repeated setbacks before eventually reaching the summit of European football.

Every great team in history has experienced some form of failure at some stage, and Arsenal will be no different.

Arsenal are a really good team. They played really well in the Premier League and were unbeaten throughout their Champions League campaign.

Yes, they fell short in the final, but they pushed the best team in Europe over the last two seasons all the way to penalties because PSG had no answer for them.

That shows just how good Arsenal are as a side and how much room they still have to improve given how young this squad is.

Arsenal will continue to challenge for trophies in England and Europe, and as they grow older, they will learn from these heartbreaks and bounce back in a way that will not be too dissimilar to some of the greatest teams football has seen in recent history.
