Arsenal's summer transfer window didn't quite live up to the expectations of fans as they left themselves short in attack with a lack of business on the frontline, but there is a chance for that to be fixed in January.

Bringing in only Christos Tzolis as reinforcements to replace the outgoing Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli, many felt that another forward was needed to ensure the Gunners could go on and defend their Premier League title amid their fellow 'big six' undergoing huge changes to their respective setups, but Mikel Arteta and co. opted against signing a second despite attempts to lure Julián Alvarez to the Emirates Stadium.

However, Arsenal find themselves short in a number of areas along with left wing and that gives them three signings to already be thinking about ahead of the January transfer window.

Left winger

As previously stated, one position Arsenal need to add depth to is the left wing. Christos Tzolis has started six of his side's eight games so far this season with Eberechi Eze standing in as unorthodox cover on the flank.

While the Greek has performed well for the most part, he has shown signs of struggling to deal with the demands of the Premier League and after he suffered an injury on international duty, the Gunners were reminded how light they are on the wing.

Tzolis' recent fitness issue and Eze's poor form at the start of the campaign show that Arteta can't rely on the latter if the Greece international picks up another knock, which should be enough to tempt the club to move for a winger in January.

Antonio Nusa is reported by some to be a top target while Kenan Yıldız remains on the list after being explored as an option in the summer. Eli Junior Kroupi could be another candidate once he has recovered from his injury, but he is likely to be a pricey choice.

Striker

Kai Havertz has made an impressive start to the campaign with three goals in seven appearances across all competitions, keeping Viktor Gyökeres at bay, but an injury suffered while on international duty with Germany leaves the Swede has his side's only option up front.

Unlike his counterpart, Gyökeres' performances in the opening weeks of the campaign have been well below par as he is yet to find the back of the net amid very uneventful showings. There is no doubt that he should be able to return to form, but it's not clear how long Arteta will be willing to rely on him for.

Havertz's injury isn't expected to be serious, but with no real timeframe on his comeback, he could be waiting until November to make his return to action, leaving the Swedish number 14 to lead the line for the time being.

Gyökeres has time to show Arteta that he can perform, but if he doesn't and Havertz easily displaces him once he's back to fitness, the Spaniard should be considering bringing in another option up top. With it being the January window and a move for Alvarez pretty much ruled out, any new signing may have to be cheap, but it should tie up a loose end in the Arsenal setup.

Right back

Having fought off last season's injury issues and with Jurrien Timber still sidelined, Ben White began this season as Arteta's first choice right back, but just as the Dutchman made his return, the Gunners' number four fell to another knock, leaving Arsenal with just one option on the right side of defence.

This has been an unfortunate recurring issue for the North Londoners with them rarely having both right backs at full fitness at the same time so there may be no other decision than to turn to the transfer market in January.

Martín Zubimendi has filled in there this season, but as a natural midfielder, it's hard to see him being the most reliable option for the whole campaign so the Gunners should really consider signing another defensive choice with Timber and White unlikely to maintain fitness consistently.
