It took 28 years for Noni Madueke to break Paul Gascoigne's England record

Scrabble fans, this one's for you.

Noni Madueke recently featured for England in both of their September international break fixtures. The Arsenal forward, who signed in the summer from Chelsea, has been a surprising overperformer at the start of this season.

Madueke is yet to score his first Arsenal goal, but it's fair to say that Arsenal fans have been pleasantly surprised by the performances he's been putting in at the start of this season.

And Thomas Tuchel clearly values him. Despite reiterating the need for Noni to stay focused, there's clearly a good working relationship between the two former Chelsea men, which will only benefit Arsenal.

Noni Madueke just broke Paul Gascoigne's England record

Hilariously, Noni Madueke matched a record previously held by Paul Gascoigne.

Gascoigne's last goal for England came in September 1997. Fast forward to 28 years later, and Noni Madueke became the first England player with every available vowel (A, E, I, O, U) in his name to score a senior goal since Gascoigne.

Obviously, Noni Madueke is a long way from leaving the legacy Gascoigne left behind, but this is a pretty hilarious stat that's now been matched.

As a bonus side point, 'Noni Madueke' would score you 18 points in a game of Scrabble, whereas 'Paul Gascoigne' would score you 19 points. If that very niche scenario ever arises, you can thank us then.

Madueke scored his first goal for England against Serbia after nine senior appearances. It goes without saying that he blazed through the youth academy, with 13 goals at the England youth level.

Arsenal fans will be eagerly watching Noni Madueke and how he performs for England. Thomas Tuchel has given England fans every reason to believe, with his 100% record since taking the job from Gareth Southgate.

As mentioned, Tuchel knows Madueke from his time at Chelsea. Tuchel achieved success (annoyingly) with Chelsea, so England fans are starting to believe that the master of knockout soccer can finally get the job done for the Three Lions.

And Madueke is at the final part of his development. He is almost the end product, but with a season or two of sticking his head down and getting to work, we could be talking about a starter in this Arsenal team.

Heck, the injury to Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli's awful form will make Madueke raise his eyebrows.
