It took 3 months for Eberechi Eze to fix Arsenal's biggest flaw

Arsenal's 4-1 thrashing of Tottenham was one to savour for several reasons but watching Eberechi Eze hit a North London derby hat-trick against the very club he turned down to move to the Emirates was the sweetest.

Eze was the star of the show on Sunday, netting three of the hosts' four goals with Leandro Trossard's opener having got the ball rolling. It was a performance that explained why the Gunners spent £67 million to bring the English attacker to the red side of North London.

"Who's Eze?" asked Thomas Frank before the 27-year-old let the Spurs boss know exactly who he is. While he is an excellent playmaker, he is also a player not afraid to go for the goal, and that's a point raised by CBS Sports' James Benge and alluded to by Mikel Arteta.

Shoot to thrill: Eze gives Arsenal something they've been lacking

There have been many years of watching Arsenal come agonisingly close to major sucess including finishing runner up in the Premier League title race in the past three seasons. One setback that has often been attributed to Arteta's men falling at the final hurdle has been goalscoring or at least attempting to score.

While putting together intricate passes and moves that get the Emirates faithful off their feet is part of the Arteta brand of football there needs to be a successful conclusion. Eze is the type of player who will try his luck when perhaps others have been less ambitious to do so.

Benge touched on this with CBS stating that "when there's a shot to be had, he doesn't hang about."

This was pointed out by Arteta who explained "it doesn't have to be perfect... it can be right, left, ball on the ground, bouncing ball at this height, and he takes it."

Eze is now leading Arsenal's shot-taking ranks with 25, putting him above Viktor Gyokeres and Bukayo Saka. He has started just five league games which speaks volumes of his confidence to try and get on the scoresheet.

Arteta added: "He has such a quality and capacity to finish actions in different ways that we need to play him very close to the box. Apart from [the goals], for example, the ball that he put to Declan Rice] in the second minute, I think it was, to play him through and create that big chance is exceptional."

It bodes well for Eze who was under the microscope ahead of the Spurs game. There wasn't a bigger match for the Englishman to show his ability and knack for finding the back of the net.

Eze complicates Martin Odegaard's return

Eze's heroics against Spurs also came just ahead of Martin Odegaard's return from a knee injury suffered in early October. The Norweigan playmaker could even be fit enough to make Arteta's squad for the massive Champions League clash with Bayern Munich at home on Wednesday (November 26).

Arteta now has a happy headache deciding between the duo for the number 10 role but Eze's sensational showing on Sunday makes him undroppable against Bayern. But it just leans into that idea that there isn't a club in Europe with better strength in depth.

One week could see Eze tearing defenders apart with his pace, quick feet and intent to score. The next might well be Odegaard's time to shine mostly as the side's creator, putting balls on a plate for the likes of Saka, Gyokeres and Trossard.
