Training footage drops a major hint about Arsenal debut this weekend

The absence of William Saliba from training suggests that an Arsenal debut could be on the horizon this weekend.

Arsenal host Nottingham Forest in the early kick-off at the Emirates on Saturday and deadline day loan signing Piero Hincapié could be named in the starting lineup.

Hincapié appeared in an open training session at London Colney yesterday but William Saliba did not train. Saliba picked up an ankle injury during the warm-up at Liverpool and was withdrawn quite early in the match.

The Gunners will be hoping to bounce back from the narrow defeat at Anfield just before the international break and Arteta will be grateful that his players came back from international duty relatively unscathed.

Bukayo Saka missed yesterday's session after he was forced off against Leeds with a hamstring injury. Saka has injured his left hamstring, not the right one that he injured last season. Having strengthened in the summer window, Saka's absence might not be felt quite as acutely as last season.

Ben White in contention for Forest visit

There was good news for Arsenal who welcomed back Ben White to full training. He came off after 70 minutes of the season opener at Manchester United with an unspecified knock. He will be in contention this weekend after missing the league matches against Leeds United and Liverpool.

Also in contention to make his Arsenal Premier League debut is Christian Nørgaard. The Dane has been missing since the start of the season with an unspecified knock and the former Brentford pivot will be anxious to get some minutes on the clock having played much of pre-season. The poor form of Martin Zubimendi in the Liverpool match could give Arteta pause for thought but Nørgaard may only feature if he is used as a substitute.

Riccardo Calafiori trained yesterday despite sitting out the second of Italy's World Cup Qualifiers in Israel in midweek. Arguably Arsenal's player of the season so far, Calafiori will be keen to hold on to his place in the side amid strong competition from Myles Lewis-Skelly and Piero Hincapié

Mosquera or Hincapié could deputise for Saliba

The welcome sight of Piero Hincapié being involved in yesterday's session is another reminder of just how far Arsenal have come this summer. While concerns about Saliba being missing are very real, the availability of Mosquera and Hincapié as replacements (in addition to Calafiori, White and Timber who can all play there) is reassuring.

Hincapié was away on duty with Ecuador during the international break, helping La Tri to secure a 1-0 home victory over Argentina and an away point in Paraguay. His performance at centre back against Paraguay was particularly excellent. He won 100% of his ground and aerial duels. Switched to left back for the visit of Argentina, Hincapié kept Giuliano Simeone and Alexis MacAllister quiet and got forward himself.

With Saliba seamingly doubtful, Arteta has a number of options for Forest. Christhian Mosquera deputised very well at Liverpool, playing almost the full 90 minutes and looking solid. Perhaps a more attacking option is to hand Hincapié his debut.

Whichever way Arteta goes with his team selection, Arsenal have shown already that the summer transfer window has provided ample cover throughout the squad and that whoever is asked to deputise, they will have the quality to do so effectively.
