Unai Emery is doing a wonderful job at Aston Villa this season. After starting the season winless and goalless in the first few games, the former Arsenal manager has helped Villa gain control of their results, winning 11 games in a row, and going up to third position in the Premier League table.
For a team that was in the relegation zone a few months ago, it is genuinely commendable just how quickly Aston Villa's fortunes have changed.
Villa's midfield is one of the best in England at the moment, and that is clearly the driving force behind their resurgence.
Now, a team that stands in their way to 12 successive wins is none other than Arsenal, a team they have already beaten in this run.
However, the stakes are even higher this time. Arsenal are looking better, as are Villa, and the margin for error for both teams is extremely low.
Unai Emery just said what Arsenal fans already knew about the title race
Emery was asked about the game and the title race on Tuesday night, and his answer was exactly what Arsenal fans knew he would say.
He said: “I think Arsenal are favourites to win the league. How they are building the team, how they are improving a lot of things, more players in their squad. Some players, they are coming back after being injured, like Havertz and Jesus, and of course, look and see them now, stronger.
“We are analysing them to play tomorrow like we analysed three weeks ago, and of course, we have as well enough players and enough structure tactically and individually and mentally as well to try to face them, but of course, it’s the biggest test we are going to face.
“Of course, Manchester City as well, they are performing fantastic, and we must be proud of everything we are doing and being one point behind Manchester City, three points behind Arsenal, and how we are doing our way, but we must be humble, and we must be confident, and we must be as well ambitious. And our ambition is, go tomorrow to face them and we’ll see how we are facing them.
Emery knows what he is talking about. He knows that Villa are genuinely up there as one of the teams to look out for, and one that can definitely have a title charge at some point if the results keep falling in their favour. However, he also knows that Arsenal are the genuine favorites for this season's Premier League title.
Nothing is set in stone yet. Actually, it is far from that, because just three points separate Arsenal from third-placed Aston Villa in the table, so it is really, really close.
But, Arsenal have been the best team this season, so it does make sense why Emery is saying what he is saying.
