Viktor Gyökeres has been ruled out of action for Arsenal until after the November international break and that disruption comes at a time when he was just finding form.

The Sweden international had scored three goals in his last three appearances for the Gunners before being taken off midway through the 2-0 win at Burnley. Fears then arose that he had suffered a hamstring injury and that meant he missed Tuesday's trip to Slavia Prague.

His absence from the national team call-up means there is genuine worry surrounding the issue and while there is squad members who can temporarily take his place in the Arsenal setup, this setback will do his own progression no good.

Following his summer move from Sporting, Gyökeres was attracting criticism for his slow start to life as an Arsenal player. With three goals in his first 11 appearances for the club, he was in serious need of a confidence boost.

That came in a dominant 4-0 Champions League win over Atlético Madrid in which he scored a brace to open his European account for the Gunners and end a seven-game goal drought. He had silenced his critics, but he then had to build on it.

A bright performance in attack against Crystal Palace followed and while he couldn't find a goal in the London derby, he displayed his other attributes as a top striker, causing plenty of problems for the Eagles' defence.

He scored again last Saturday to put his side ahead at Burnley and enjoyed an all-round good time on the pitch, putting in what many described as his best showing in an Arsenal shirt. However, his game was cruelly brought to an end at half-time when he was forced off as he was battling a niggling issue.

That injury has ruled him out for an uncertain period of time, until after the international break at least, and it is frustrating that he has been hindered just as he was finding some good form and building the confidence he was in desperate need of.

Having spent the last two seasons playing in the Portuguese league, a division vastly different to the Premier League, he was always going to need some time to get himself up and running in north London.

Gyökeres had that time and at the end of it, he was hitting a decent run of form where he was finding the back of the net as well as being a troubling force in attack. That has unfortunately now been disrupted for the foreseeable future.

His injury has certainly come at the worst time for his progression as an Arsenal player. He finally looked to be showing that confidence he needed to lead the Gunners line, but that has been cruelly stopped for now.

Fans will be hoping the issue won't keep him out for too long and once he returns he will be back among the goals in no time, but there will be a real worry that he could need some time to return to his scoring form.
