The March international break was a resounding success for Arsenal. Sure, there are a few injury scares, but let's be honest, most of them will probably amount to nothing, and it gave Arsenal plenty of borrowed time. One player who seriously impressed while playing, though, was Viktor Gyökeres, and now Mikel Arteta has to make a quick decision between him and Kai Havertz.
Heading into the international break, you would easily say that Havertz had the edge in the race for a starting spot for Arsenal. If he was fit, he was Arteta's guy.
However, when Gyökeres scored for Sweden late on, sending them to this year's World Cup, he confirmed one lesson that Arteta may have forgotten about: Gyökeres delivers when it matters most.
Viktor Gyökeres has already disproven the myth made up by Arsenal haters
'Flat track bully' this, 'missing in big games' that.
Viktor Gyökeres received his fair share of critics when he first signed for Arsenal, but he's proven them wrong again. So far this season, that game against Poland was his biggest game. Towards the end, he sent his nation to the World Cup, the world's biggest event.
Gyökeres is a serial winner, and he's one of the most dangerous strikers in the world. The viewpoint of Premier League fans is very narrow, just because he once did so in the Portuguese league, but he's now doing it in the Premier League, and on the world stage with his country.
Kai Havertz has what Viktor Gyökeres has
Look, this only makes the decision harder for Mikel Arteta.
Viktor Gyökeres scored on a monumental occasion, but we mustn't act like Kai Havertz hasn't done the same. Havertz himself scored on international duty this time, but the German has also scored in a Champions League final.
Arteta is blessed with a very nice problem to have. Truth be told, there is a case to be made for both players, which may prompt Arteta to play them together. Both players are strongest when leading the line, but if anyone has to drop into the midfield to facilitate the duo starting together, it would be Havertz who does so.
What happens when Martin Ødegaard then returns to the team remains to be seen, but it's never a bad thing to have a strong enough squad that it forces the coach to scratch his head.
As we all know, Mikel Arteta's hair is perfecto. So scratch it as much as you wish, Mikel.
