Viktor Gyokeres is set to wear the iconic number 14 shirt for Arsenal as he edges closer to finalising his move, according to multiple reports.
The digits are regarded as the Gunners' most famous after it was made iconic by the club's record scorer Thierry Henry throughout his initial eight-year spell in north London, during which he netted 226 goals.
With the number nine shirt he wore at Sporting currently occupied by Gabriel Jesus, Gyokeres had the option to wear number 10 for Arsenal, digits that many consider just as iconic, but he has instead opted to take 14, a nod to his likely desperation to continue a legacy that began with his French predecessor.

Gyokeres is said to be willing to take on the 14 shirt and that announces that he feels an incredible amount of confidence that he can continue the legacy the shirt holds.
A year after Henry's departure to Barcelona, Theo Walcott was bestowed with the shirt and despite an injury-plagued spell with Arsenal, he did his best to live up to the honour. The Southampton academy graduate netted 108 goals in 397 appearances for the club.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was then the next man to take on the iconic digits and he continued to build on the foundations layed by Henry. He was a prolific scorer for the Gunners and led them to FA Cup glory as captain in 2020. He followed the Frenchman in moving to Catalonia and his departure and subsequent transfers were viewed as controversial, but he is still fondly remembered in north London.
Hale End graduate Eddie Nketiah took the shirt from Aubameyang and while he did turn up for Arsenal on occasion, he failed to live up to the expectations of the number. He signed for Crystal Palace last summer and the shirt has been vacant since then.
Gyokeres is now set to be the next one to take on the shirt that holds plenty of history within Arsenal Football Club. He is clearly confident that he can continue the legacy and fans will share that feeling. The Gunners finally have their big-name striker that should deliver the goals and he will do so while wearing the club's most iconic shirt number.
