Viktor Gyokeres is expected to make the move to Arsenal shortly, and one detail has us impressed.
It appears that after months of waiting, Arsenal is finally closing in on its striker target, with Sporting's Viktor Gyokeres edging closer to a move to north London.
Per several reports, Andre Berta has flown to Lisbon to thrash out a deal and to get things moving swiftly with Mikel Arteta wanting his new striker in the squad when preseason begins shortly.
After inititally thinking it was RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko who the Gunners were infatuated with, after the striker wanted a release clause and proposed whopping wage demands, Arsenal said thanks but no thanks to the towering striker and turned its attention to Viktor.
With Arteta's words of not having to convince a player to join ringing in our ears, and it being a dream for Gyokeres to move to north London, now we have another update that further illustrates the differences in character between Sesko and Viktor.
Gyokeres shows Arsenal love with contract update
At the time of writing, we don't know the exact money that is being thrown around to get Gyokeres through the doors at Arsenal, but we know one big indicator and is shows how much Viktor values joining Arteta's project.
Per Miran Zore of NoGo Mania.com, Gyokeres is taking less money to move to the Gunners, and what he will reportedly be earning is less than what Sesko is currently on at Leipzig.
Colour me impressed.
Gyokeres is taking far less to join the Gunners compared to what he could get at other clubs, and that, to us, shows how much he values playing in north London.
Plus, it is a big feather in the cap of Arteta who didn't really need to convince Gyokeres to come to North London, but to not blow the budget either, that's a win-win.
So we have Sesko who wanted a release clause AND a huge salary, and then we have Gyokeres who is taking less money to force a move to Arsenal.
While ultimately it will be what each player does off the pitch that will determine if Arsenal made the right choice, but based on the off-field life, Gyokeres is the clear winner.
