Arsenal's Brazilian defender was withdrawn early against Olympiacos.

Arsenal secured a 2-0 win over Olympiacos at the Emirates Stadium in the Champions League to continue its undefeated start to the campaign.

An early goal to Gabriel Martinelli after some tough forward play from Viktor Gyokeres got the scoring started, but it wasn't until injury time in the second half that Bukayo Saka doubled the lead after a delightful Martin Odegaard pass secured the win for Mikel Arteta's team.

The Gunners were full value for their win, but there was one sour note to come out of the game, with defender Gabriel Magalhaes forced off with an injury to further add to the list of players in the treatment room.

Of course, now the Gunners have a more than adequate replacement in Cristhian Mosquera who came on in the 75th minute and slotted into the back line with ease.

But given that Arsenal has a crucial clash against West Ham in the league coming up, Mosquera might be forced to partner with William Saliba in the heart of defense.

Arteta gives positive Gabriel injury update

After keeper David Raya landed on Gabriel awkwardly in the second half, many think that was the reason why the Brazilian was taken off.

However ,speaking post-game, Arteta offered up a different thought.

"Yeah, I think he's going to be OK," Arteta said via arsenal.com. "He felt something, I think it was a kick, I'm not sure, in the first half, and he was a bit uncomfortable, and towards the second half he was there. He could carry on, but we decided not to take any risks because he's played a lot of games, he's coming from a long-term injury as well, and we need to look after him."

The fact that Arteta states Gabriel "could carry on" is positive, so it appears taking off the defender was a precaution more than anything.

Plus, when you have Mosquera waiting in the wings, then why not pull the trigger? That is exactly why you bought him.

So the Gunners dealt with Olympiacos, and seemingly have avoided a substantial injury to their star central defender. Seems like a good night's work to me.
