Arsenal fought back to secure a 2-2 draw against Liverpool after a stirring second-half performance.

Mikel Arteta's Arsenal side came back from a 2-0 deficit against Liverpool at Anfield to salvage a 2-2 draw and extend its unbeaten run against the top six teams to a whopping 21 games.

After Cody Gakpo and Luis Diaz scored 60 seconds apart in the first half, the writing was on the wall for the Gunners, and the group could have folded, and the Reds might have added another two or three to curb-stomp Arteta's team.

But something must have happened in the dressing room at half time because the Gunners came out and scored straight after, with Gabriel Martinelli's header bringing a goal back.

Then with 20 minutes left, Mikel Merino pounced after Martin Odegaard's thunderous strike rattled the cross bar, and Merino was jogging on the spot to tap home to bring the Gunners level.

Arsenal turn ship around in second half

It was quite the turnaround for Arsenal with Arteta's side doing its best to take it to the champs, and they did. But Merino's second yellow card meant the Gunners were down to 10 men for the last portion, and they held on for a 2-2 draw.

But what was the catalyst for the turnaround?

"Whatever happens in the dressing room, it’s going to stay there," Arteta said via arsenal.com. "It couldn't be much worse. It could be, because this is football, or they could be more effective but thankfully we did in the second half what we are capable of doing, understanding as well a lot of the things that are against us at the moment."

Given the turnaround in the second half, Arteta will be a little ticked off that it took what we think was a stern talking to at half -time to get such a response.

Had that been the approach in the first half, maybe the result might have been different, but a draw at Anfield is nothing to sneeze at and now Arsenal must maintain the rage if they are to clinch a top five spot and Champions League football next season.
