Arsenal are among the clubs looking at a deal for Rosenborg midfielder Sverre Nypan but they need to act swiftly to avoid being beaten to his signature.

While the Gunners are said to be working on a deal to sign the youngster, other reports have claimed Manchester City also hold a strong interest and have already presented a plan to Nypan.

Amid their resurgence as a title-challenging team, Arsenal have become used to battling with rival clubs to sign players and the hunt for Nypan is no exception. However, given not every target has ended up at the Emirates, the Gunners must not be beaten to the signing of Sverre Nypan.

Why Arsenal can't be beaten to Sverre Nypan

David Ornstein revealed on Friday evening that Arsenal were working on a deal to sign the youngster and while talks were advancing, no agreement had yet been reached. And in swooped Man City, who hosted the player at the Etihad Stadium for their 3-1 win over Chelsea.

Both clubs have targeted Nypan for a lengthy time and now seem to have begun the formal processes of an attempt to sign him. However, it would appear the Cityzens may have the upper hand. Not only did they invite Nypan to the Etihad, they have presented a project to him with an initial move to sister club Girona also discussed.

This will come as a worry to us Arsenal fans, who will be dreading seeing a bright young star make the move to one of their title rivals over North London. And that is why the club must step up their pursuit and not be beaten to the signing of Nypan.

Sverre Nypan is currently one of the brightest prospects in European football. He scored eight goals and provided seven assists in 28 appearances for Rosenborg in the 2024 Eliteserien and having only recently turned 18, they are impressive numbers to have put up.

Although he is young, Nypan's ability shows he would be a very welcome addition to the Gunners squad. With the club expected to lose Thomas Partey and Jorginho in the summer, they will be in need of midfield reinforcements, even with the reported signing of Martin Zubimendi, so the Norwegian will help fill some gaps.

The signing of Nypan is also crucial to maintain Arsenal's status as a big club in the transfer market. They have frequently battled with rival clubs for transfer targets, and it hasn't always worked out for the Gunners, having previously missed out on priority targets such as Dusan Vlahovic and Mykhailo Mudryk.

Despite their occasional shortcomings, they have managed to pry big names like Declan Rice and Riccardo Calafiori away from Man City and Chelsea respectively in recent windows, showing they can compete and win over the most-wanted players on the market. If they were to lose out on a prospect as bright as Nypan, that would be a significant regression for their status and 'transfer pull'.

David Ornstein has previously stated that the youngster is keen on a move to Arsenal and a report on Sunday revealed he is in London and has probably visited the club. That will spark much positivity among Gooners but let's keep the excitement to a minimum until we see that sweet official announcement on the club's social media.

City will likely continue trying to bring Nypan to the northeast, but the Gunners must not allow them. It is imperative that Arsenal go all out to sign the youngster. He has shown his ability, and at such a young age, he will continue to improve in the future. Not only that, but the club must be willing to strike a deal for the midfielder in order to show they can still compete and beat the likes of City and other big clubs to some of Europe's most sought-after players.
