Why Leandro Trossard makes Arsenal's £130m Morgan Rogers dilemma even clearer

Why fix what's not broken?

Rumour has it, Morgan Rogers is valued at £130m by Aston Villa. As much as that valuation stinks, Arsenal have been given yet another reason to avoid signing Morgan Rogers by Leandro Trossard.

For Belgium at the World Cup, Leandro Trossard has been occupying a role that would surprise certain Arsenal fans. He is essentially playing as a central creator just behind the primary centre-forward, and it's a role that has been suiting him down to a T.

This is a role that Morgan Rogers can also occupy - the ability to play out wide or through the central channel. If Leandro Trossard can do it, then why would Arsenal spend £130m fixing a problem that, frankly, does not even exist?

Leandro Trossard gives Arsenal another reason to avoid Morgan Rogers

Of course, Morgan Rogers is a better player than Leandro Trossard. However, he is not a £130m upgrade. The fact that Trossard is showcasing his ability to adapt at the World Cup drills that point home even further.

If Arsenal want to upgrade their left-wing position, then Rodrygo is the obvious choice. In some bizarre, strange twist of fate, Rodrygo would probably come cheaper than Morgan Rogers. Arsenal would essentially be signing a better player for cheaper, simply because he is not English.

Regardless, nobody would turn up their nose if Arsenal signed Rodrygo. I know I wouldn't.

However, there would be a nagging feeling of 'oh, so this is where football is headed, and Arsenal are partaking in that. Sigh.'

Look, everybody knows the state of the transfer market. You can run from it, but you can't hide from it.

That said, you can certainly hide from paying over the odds for players just because they're English. There is, undoubtedly, a premium that English clubs pay for English players. Given how Arsenal is essentially providing the England national team as it is, they really don't need to fall into this trap.

When Leandro Trossard returns home from the World Cup, there is a serious conversation that needs to be had about whether he or Gabriel Martinelli stays. Arsenal have made it pretty clear that they want to upgrade the left wing, and neither Trossard nor Martinelli deserve to be third choice.

As it stands, Trossard is top of the pecking order. Martinelli might be younger, but that feeds into the reason to sell him. Arsenal could make some serious profit on Martinelli while his stock is this high
