Arsenal kept their post-international break form going on Tuesday night, as they beat Lille in the Champions League. The Gunners faced a frustrating night at the Emirates, seeing missed opportunities fall by the wayside, before Jurrien Timber scored in the 64th minute.

Timber's goal opened the floodgates for Arsenal, as they then scored two more in the next seven minutes thanks to Eberechi Eze and Bukayo Saka. It leaves the Gunners with two wins from two in the Champions League, and two clean sheets after beating Napoli 1-0 in their first game.

Including the Lille win, Arsenal have now won 14 Champions League group/league stage games in a row, and haven't conceded from open play in 10 straight games in the competition. The only blot on their Champions League landscape was the defeat to PSG in the final last year. It seems that Mikel Arteta really has Europe figured out.

Mikel Merino believes Arsenal can win the quadruple

After the game against Lille, midfielder Mikel Merino was bold in his predictions for the Gunners, saying that he thinks they can win the quadruple this season. He told Sky Sports: "The goal is to win the Champions League, the Premier League, to win everything. That’s what the manager wants. That’s what the fans want. That’s what we as players want as well.

"This is the mentality. This is the aim. We were so, so close last season, and that proved to us we are ready for it. Now it’s about details, being present and ready in the right moments. And we believe that."

Merino's prediction may not seem as bold as it sounds. Arsenal have arguably been the best team in the Champions League this season, and they couldn't have started better. On top of that, they remain in the Carabao Cup, with a fourth-round tie against League Two side Fleetwood Town coming up.

They are the current favourites to win the FA Cup, and the Premier League is a very interesting case. Arsenal and Man City are expected to battle out for the title this season, but seeing as Man City's future remains very uncertain, with the potential for a points deduction, the Gunners could walk to consecutive titles this year.

According to Oddschecker, Arsenal's current quadruple odds are 125/1, which gives them a slim 0.8% chance. But when you consider that they are 11/20 to win the Premier League (64.5%), 11/2 to win the Champions League (15.4%), 9/2 to win the FA Cup (18.2%), and 23/10 (30.3%) to win the Carabao Cup, Merino's prediction doesn't seem out of the question.
