Wojciech Szczesny admits one big regret from his time at Arsenal

Former Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny has revealed his regret of not winning the Premier League during his time at Arsenal.

Szczesny played for Arsenal - including his formative years as well as his professional career - for 11 years. He joined at 16 year old, and permanently to Juventus after a couple of loan spells in 2017.

There was a period of about five years where Szczesny was in the squad for, where he played 181 games for the club. At that point, Arsenal were playing well under Arsene Wenger, and they were consistently in the top four spots.

However, he was never able to win the trophy that alluded many of Arsenal's greats after the Invincibles era, and he claimed it still hurts him to this day.

In a recent interview in Birmingham, as he prepares for a friendly for Barcelona against Birmingham City, he was asked about what he thinks of Arsenal.

He said: "When I was there, we had one season when we were on top of the league for a very long time, and we lost in the end.

"I felt we were the best team in the league. But we were a very young, inexperienced team, and in the end, when it mattered, we fell short. It still hurts because it's the one trophy that I haven't won in professional football that I would have loved to win... winning the Premier League with Arsenal."

He was also very open about his support for Arsenal during the season, claiming how important it was to win the league title this time around.

"But to win the Premier League after 22 years... It's a big relief because I've waited for it for a very long time and I'm very happy they built a project of probably one of the best clubs in Europe."

Szczesny is an Arsenal fan through and through, and if it was not clear to people then, it is definitely clear to them now. And, by the way, it is not like he has retired from football. Most football fans are always nice about their former clubs, but they only talk about them the way Szczesny is talking about Arsenal when they retire, because that is when they are not contractually bound to say one thing or the other.

Obviously, the Polish goalkeeper plays for Barcelona, but it is still a potential rival for Arsenal in the Champions League, but it is clear to him that it is his most beautiful part of his career.

He said: "Arsenal is a place where I made my dream come true. Emotionally, it's the maximum that I believe anybody can achieve: playing for the club of your dreams. I've achieved the dream. It's the peak of your career. It's a beautiful story, although I only won three trophies with Arsenal: two FA Cups and a Community Shield.

"It will probably always be the most beautiful part of my career. The one filled with the most passion. It was also the start of my career. I was very hungry, very determined to show people that I belong at that level."
