If Arsenal fans are not happy with the way their team has worked in the transfer market this season, then no other fanbase should be happy, either. Arsenal's transfer window provided solutions to almost everything that they needed, and now, things are looking good for the Gunners.
Their squad is one of the deepest in not just the Premier League, but in all of Europe now, and it is clear that they will do better than they did last season.
New signing Piero Hincapie has come in to provide some much-needed depth across the Gunners' defense, and just like with any signing, there are a few winners who benefit from this signing - and also a few players who don't.
2 winners (and losers) from Arsenal signing Piero Hincapie
Winner - Gabriel
Arsenal's best central defenders will always need back-up behind them. Gabriel has averaged a very high number of minutes over the course of his time in North London, and since having that long-term injury must have basically convinced Arteta into needing a brilliant back-up, who would take a lot of pressure off the Brazilian's head.
Hincapie's work on the ball often goes unnoticed, and his intensity off it will be cherished by Gabriel and the Arsenal fanbase.
Loser - Myles Lewis-Skelly
Arsenal had two really good left-backs last season in Riccardo Calafiori and Myles Lewis-Skelly. Lewis-Skelly, in particular, greatly impressed Mikel Arteta and the fanbase whenever he slotted in at left-back.
However, Hincapie also has a proven track record of being a reliable left-back whenever needed. If you are going to use the argument of Hincapie not being a natural left-back, well, neither is Lewis-Skelly.
Hincapie has played in that position more than the Englishman, and who knows - if Arsenal are playing a crucial Champions League game and Calafiori is out, Arteta may favour Hincapie over the wonderkid.
Winner - Mikel Arteta
As good as Jakub Kiwior used to be, it is clear that Arsenal needed to bridge the gap between starters and their back-ups, and Hincapie slots in perfectly as a left central defender.
There is no one who is going to feel that more than Arteta. It has been clear for a couple of years that there is an over-reliance and an overburdening of sorts on both Gabriel and Saliba.
The centre-backs that are behind them, as good as they were as squad players, Arteta could've probably done with players who were just that little bit better.
With this move, that has been achieved. Now, Arsenal have four brilliant central defenders who will probably play as central defenders - with Cristhian Mosquera and Hincapie backing up their two superstar defenders. Arteta must be the happiest man in England at the moment.
Loser - Riccardo Calafiori
Calafiori won't be an out and out loser in the sense that his job is on the line because of Hincapie - because it isn't - but there is one way Calafiori would have something to lose.
Calafiori had six injuries last season, forcing him to miss a combined 26 games as a result. On the other hand, Hincapie has not had an injury since the 2022-23 season.
If the Italian defender gets injured - which I would hope does not happen - and the the new signing impresses Arteta a little too much for his liking, then it may be a different conversation altogether.
The chances of that happening are very slim because of how amazing Calafiori has been for Arsenal in the games he has played, but you can never rule these things out in football.
