Arsene Wenger Working Harder Than Ever This Transfer Window for Arsenal

It’s rare to see Arsene Wenger so sincere in his statements, but the Prof was holding nothing back when responding to questions about this transfer window and what his needs were, especially in the wake of Mathieu Debuchy and Mikel Arteta undergoing surgeries that will keep them both out for three months.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

Wenger was already looking for defenders when this happened, but now it’s even more crucial. He told Arsenal.com:

"“Yes, we are more [in the market now]. We have Chambers and we have Bellerin, who is coming on well, and I want to give them a chance as well, but of course we are in the market like many other clubs. We work really hard morning until late night to try to get one or two players in.”"

Arsenal are linked to everyone under the sun. Here’s some updates on the transfer rumors:

Transfer Rumors: Ilkay Gundogan, Marcelo Brozovic and More

Transfer Rumors: Mario Mandzukic, Sergio Ramos and More

Lately, however, Virgil van Dijk and Gzregorz Krychowiak (a defensive midfielder) have been ruled out, leaving Winston Reid and Loic Perrin (and Mats Hummels, depending on your imagination) as the only defenders Arsenal have been heavily linked to. A few other names like Hector Moreno have sprung up but that list needs to start expanding soon.

As far as midfielders go, Wenger has been much more active, with known bids going out for Marcelo Brozovic and Ilkay Gundogan, as well as the acquisition of Krystian Bielik.

January is half done and Arsenal haven’t made any of the signings that Wenger has promised, but knowing that he’s supposedly working over time, those “1-2 signings” that Arsenal still need may start to pick up steam really quickly.
