Why Would Arsenal Sign Morgan Schneiderlin Now?
By Josh Sippie
With the transfer window all but shut, rumors have emerged from the Daily Star that Arsenal and Morgan Schneiderlin have reached a personal agreement for the French midfielder to join the Gunners.
I call bologna.

Why would anything need to be changed about the current Arsenal squad? It is quite literally perfect as is and to tamper with it is to tamper with perfection.
Look at what we did to Aston Villa. Granted Villa is no Premier League heavyweight, it’s still not everyday that teams dominate to the tune of 5-0, especially without their star man, Alexis Sanchez.
Even if the plan is to sign him this summer, I still don’t support the move. Unless Arsene Wenger plans to part ways with Mikel Arteta and Mathieu Flamini (which isn’t too far-fetched, I suppose), then Schneiderlin has no place.
But let’s suppose that the two do leave, it still leaves a midfield jam-packed with Aaron Ramsey, Jack Wilshere, Mesut Ozil, Santi Cazorla and Francis Coquelin. It would be unnecessary spending. Plus, if the objective is to get a defensive midfielder, which is an unneeded task, then why Schneiderlin? I wrote an article late last year (see here) on Schneiderlin’s defensive stats when compared to Aaron Ramsey and they aren’t anything to write home about.
Arsene Wenger was resolved to buying a defensive midfielder this winter, but Coquelin emerged, and with him, the team, to prove that as it stands, this could very well be the best overall team in the league.
The rumors are dubious. Rumored deals are undone all the time and this could be another similar case. Don’t be surprised if it fades away. But who am I kidding, no transfer rumor ever really goes away. Just ask Edinson Cavani.
