Arsenal appear to be interested in Miralem Pjanic as they shore up their title bid, but the timing of it all makes this one a bit unbelievable.

Rumors will be rumors, and with the good (Ricardo Rodriguez) you will find the bad. Arsenal are not expecting any big time signings this January, according to Arsene Wenger on himself. Not only that but January is a closed shop for Le Prof unless desperation breaks the shop’s doors open.

As such, hearing that the Gunners want Miralem Pjanic is a bit on the laughable side. Not because it wouldn’t fit. It would fit wonderfully. The Bosnian international has superb talent in passing the ball, is very similar to Santi Cazorla and at just 26 years old, he would be a long-term solution to an approaching problem.

Pjanic would do very well at Arsenal and if he were to come over, there would be much rejoicing. But the sad thing is, he isn’t going to come.

Look at the timing of it all. Pjanic moved from Roma to Juventus this very summer. As in the one that just passed. How believable would you find it if Granit Xhaka was linked to a move to Barcelona this winter?

Not much. Laugh, probably.

Pjanic didn’t move to the Premier League this past summer because he wanted to stay in Italy. What would have changed six months later? Especially as he is a central piece of the Juventus puzzle; a puzzle that is again leading Serie A.

Plus this doesn’t sound like Wenger at all. He just got Ramsey back. The Welshman is supremely talented when give the chance. He is already facing an uphill battle to get playing time. To fork out for Pjanic would end Ramsey’s career at Arsenal, plain and simple.

It would do the same to Jack Wilshere, Arsene Wenger’s prodigal son. We all expect the rambunctious Englishman to return at the end of the season and be a new man, ready to challenge Ozil and Cazorla for their spots. Or at least I do.

Pjanic would end Ramsey and Wilshere equally. And that is a big, bold, potentially unnecessary step for Wenger.

Then there is the matter of Jon Toral, Jeff Reine-Adelaide, Gedion Zelalem, etc. Iwobi has proven that he can be a star, who’s to say one of these young Gunner can’t step up, given the chance?

Pjanic is fun to think about and you’re more than welcome to go make that move in FIFA 17 and revel in its splendor. But it just isn’t happening.
