Arsenal missed out on Julian Draxler, but the new PSG signing is doing Arsene Wenger one last favor as he kicks off his Parisian career.

Arsenal are fighting a continuous battle against various super clubs out there who want to filch Alexis Sanchez away from the Emirates. PSG, in their infinite riches, are one such club who have the financial resources to buy just about anyone.

Despite how convinced everyone within the club seems to be that he will remain in town (Wenger seems pretty damn convinced) there is still significant doubt and until a deal is signed, that’s how it is going to be.

Juventus and PSG appear to be the front runners to pry our spirited Chilean away from us, but PSG may actually be contented with another guy, Julian Draxler.

The young German was tied to Arsenal for the longest time, and no doubt he will continue to be, but made the move to PSG after furiously pushing away from Wolfsburg. He

is already hitting the ground running

in Paris, scoring in his debut and drawing the praise of just about everyone.

So much so that he may be doing Arsene Wenger one last favor in driving PSG interest away from Alexis Sanchez.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

While Alexis obviously has a bit more value than Draxler, if the German can drive enough output, then PSG might have no need to go after the Chilean as fiercely as they might have. The Parisian’s have quite the compilation of wide players, with Angel Di Maria and Lucas Moura rocking out in those wide positions.

Anything that takes another team’s interest away from Alexis is a welcome distraction and PSG may be so happily focused on Draxler that they don’t see the need to spend more on a similar position. Given the undoubted staunch resistance that Wenger is going to put up against other club’s advances, even altering PSG’s determination in the slightest is a boon, as it will keep Alexis’s mind from wandering too much.

So while we may never end up with Julian Draxler in an Arsenal kit, or we may yet, who knows, this is a minor favor he is doing for us right when we need it most.

Of course, the other drawback is that as Draxler is off the market, other teams may be pushing for Alexis all the harder. Only time will tell in the end. For now, let’s just look forward to Swansea City.
