Arsenal fans have a knack for super prompt criticism and Mesut Ozil has not been spared. But by his own admission, this could lead to a massive evolution.

Arsenal, like every other team in the history of the footballing world, is not perfect. Nor is anyone on the club (not even Olivier Giroud). Everyone at the club is, at one point or another, going to slip and fall and at one point, have to get back up and brush themselves off.

But in the midst of that fall, there is going to be an outcry. For Gooner’s, that is probably going to be a questioning of their stay at the Emirates or a misplaced claim that they should never have been purchased and need to be replaced.

While Olivier Giroud and Aaron Ramsey are probably the poster children of this fate, as even when they are on their game, they are still criticized for the things they did wrong, Mesut Ozil was privy to the situation as well.

After all, his first 18 months were underwhelming and found him drowning in criticism. He just didn’t look built for the English game.

Then his injury happened and he came back stronger than ever and suddenly the criticism stopped.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

But it’s back, as Ozil has fallen under heavy criticism for his consecutive lackluster performances against Everton and Manchester City before getting sick and missing the past couple weeks. Meaning that for the past two weeks he has been taking heavy flak and he has spoken out about it (via the German publication Kicker):

“If I have one bad game after ten good ones, there is immediate criticism. I have been in the business for many years. If I believed and accepted everything written about me I would be crazy.”

He went on to the good stuff:

“But through my experience and self-confidence I can handle my critics. They just make me stronger. The expectations for me are raised each year.”

If that is the case, then by the time Ozil hits 30, he should be superhuman. He is going to face heavy criticism from Gooners and pundits alike. That’s just how life is, specifically at Arsenal while the major trophies remain illusive.
