Arsenal Transfer Rumors: Yannick Carrasco Proposition Hilarious
By Josh Sippie
Arsenal may or may not need more wide options, depending on the future of loaned Gunners, but the Yannick Carrasco rumor is nothing short of hilarious.
It’s easy to forget that the transfer window is open. Mainly because Arsenal are never going to make a big signing in January. Mohamed Elneny is the closest thing.

To steal even more thunder away from the transfer rumors, we also have the fact that Arsene Wenger said not to expect any signings. All of this in spite of Santi Cazorla’s injury, as well as the sudden lack of depth in the midfield.
Out wide has always been a question too. With Theo Walcott out, Wenger has had Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Alex Iwobi to compliment Alexis Sanchez. Two young, still unproven talents. And they have their upside and will become special talents but right now, it’s still dicey to rely on them.
So any link to wide players it bound to get some attention. Even if they don’t deserve it.
Arsenal’s link to Atletico Madrid winger Yannick Carrasco is one such rumor that does not deserve it. The 23 year old Belgian is incredibly talented, is having a good season at Atletico, and merits the attention that he is getting.

But then you get to the release clause. £85 is the number. Take notice that there are no decimal points. That is the full deal. Meaning that if Arsenal wants to secure the services of this wide man, they will have to fork up an initial offer of that much. And that’s just the start.
There is no other way that I can properly say how much this is not happening. Not only because of the price tag, but because of the uncertainty of returning Gunners such as Joel Campbell.
Not only that, but much more plausible names like Goncalo Guedes are perfectly out there and available. Guedes can play all across the front line and while Carrasco has versatility as well, Guedes has much more growth room.
And much less of a price tag.
For the price that Carrasco is going to cost, Wenger could open legitimate negotiations with Antoine Griezmann. And I think it’s safe to say that at this juncture, they aren’t in the same league. Carrasco has room to grow, obviously, but the price tag is just ridiculous.
