Nobody seems to know what to do or say about Jack Wilshere. Least of all Arsenal or the man himself. But his future may be clearer than we think.

Arsenal and Jack Wilshere always seemed to have a future tied to each other, but as that future becomes dimmer, so too do the prospects of the club, as they may well have prematurely bowed out of yet another title race.

So welcoming back Jack Wilshere, someone whose love for the club has never been questioned, may seem like the obvious answer.

But when it comes to Arsene Wenger, nothing is ever obvious.

Jack Wilshere spoke again about his future, and again he really didn’t say anything. He avoided all questions relating to a return to the Emirates and reports indicate that Bournemouth has yet to offer him a long term deal either.

Meaning that, much like the fate of Arsene Wenger, we have no idea where Wilshere is headed.

It doesn’t have to be like that, though. If you look at what awaits Wilshere, should he return to the Gunners, it is incredibly clear. The one thing that has always held him out is health. For whatever reason, Bournemouth seems to have solved that problem.

Wilshere has started 17 games for Bournemouth. Since the middle of December alone, he has played eight matches for the full 90 minutes. He is really gelling into that No. 10 role, creating 1.5 chances per match and adding two assists.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

He has been one of the Cherries better players this year.

Arsenal is in a pickle for several reasons. For starters, they don’t know what Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil are doing. To compile on that, Mesut Ozil has been pretty terrible lately, leading to even more cries for him to be dropped.

Wouldn’t it make sense, then, for Jack Wilshere to come home and, at the very least, challenge Ozil for a spot that he might actually have a better chance for than we think?

Wilshere has been consistent for the Cherries, something Ozil has had so much trouble being this year. I’m not saying that Wilshere should come in and go straight into Ozil’s role, but I am saying that Ozil should be treated as a mortal player and not a demi-god. If he is struggling, you sit him and give someone else a shot. Just like if Aaron Ramsey struggles.

Wilshere can still make a killer career at Arsenal and I hope that he is given that chance.
