Arsenal are suddenly in the keeper market with Petr Cech’s mental collapse against Chelsea, but Joe Hart is as much a solution as sticking with Cech is.

Arsenal are inexplicably linked to Joe Hart. Now that that’s out of the way, let’s dig into it.

Arsene Wenger has obviously denied the link, citing that he has three world class keepers and doesn’t need another keeper of any level.

That being said, Wenger has said this before. He said it before signing Petr Cech, citing Ospina, Szczesny and Emi Martinez (?) as three world class keepers.

He then signed Petr Cech and shoved all those other keepers aside.

Wenger is rarely ever completely honest with his transfer links, but this time, I think it’s best that we hope he is. There is nothing to be had in Joe Hart. Plus, it is something the Gunners have already done.

Wenger has signed a rival keeper past his prime before – Petr Cech. Both Cech and Hart had their glory at their respective clubs before they were replaced and Wenger picked up the sloppy seconds. He picked at the left overs and called it a meal.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

For the most part, it worked out. Cech has been consistent at the back. But many are questioning if he isn’t more over the hill than we originally thought. Granted, a lot of that comes from his colossal screw up against his former club, Chelsea, but the criticism has been fair.

Purchasing Joe Hart would be the same thing – a keeper that is past his prime and has already had his glory days at a Premier League rival.

Plus, Hart last lost out to the golden gloves to Wojciech Szczesny at a time when the Pole had zero defensive help to speak of. So by that standard, wouldn’t we rather give Szczesny another shot, as he has stated over and over that his goal is to be the No. 1 keeper at Arsenal?

I prefer that much more than seeing Hart saunter in here and take a role that he might not even want that badly.

Hopefully Wenger is serious this time around and he actually doesn’t want these scraps. There are only so many left overs you can pick at before you have to buy a real, untouched meal for yourself. There are a ton of goal keeping options out there if Cech is going to be done away with and Joe Hart should not be anywhere near that list.
