Arsenal are tied to Manchester United poster child Wayne Rooney and at this point, why the hell not? Bring the guy over and give him a shot.

Arsenal has been tied to Wayne Rooney in the past, but with the captain being weened out of Jose Mourinho’s future vision (if you can call it that) of the club, any ties now seem more believable. But then again, more than zero isn’t hard to accomplish.

I am not a fan of sloppy seconds. I don’t like filching a player that has the better parts of his career behind him. Particularly someone like Wayne Rooney, who is Manchester United through and through. But it’s gotten to the point where we have to be so desperate for a change that we can do much worse than Rooney.

And the change he would bring would actually be pretty welcome. Just make sure he’s always shooting with his right foot.

In all seriousness though, Harry Redknapp has a huge point when he talks about the perks of snagging Wayne.

“Arsenal should take a gamble and sign Wayne Rooney on a two-year contract,”Redknapp wrote in the Evening Standard. “Arsenal looked at him a few years ago so we know Arsene is a fan.”

And then the real selling point: “He would improve that team overnight because they have an issue with attitude and he is a winner.”

More from Pain in the Arsenal

Cheers, Harry! Seriously, attitude is the problem because you look at this club on paper and you see talent all over the damn place, but when you ask them to apply themselves and actually maximize that talent and they soil their britches.

Rooney knows how to win. He doesn’t have to be out there ever day to be infusing the team with his experience. Not at all. Although, he is averaging an assist clip that is twice as good as Mesut Ozil’s, the “assist king.”

That’s where we are with our lives.

At 31 years old, a two year contract like Redknapp is suggesting isn’t the worst idea I’ve ever heard. It would probably coincide with a potential two year deal for Wenger. In those two years, ideally, the Gunners would shake their stigma that prevents them from winning.

They would learn how to follow through in major competitions and not choke every time they have a great chance.

And in the end, if it took a “sloppy second” like Rooney to push us over the edge, so what? RVP helped United win a title. Call it justice.
