Arsenal: Hector Bellerin Development Hints At Cult-Like Dilemma
By Josh Sippie
Arsenal seemed to be the home of Hector Bellerin for life, but apparently if Wenger goes, he goes. This is a major dilemma that is starting to grow.
Arsenal had such a painful history of losing all their young and promising players when they were going through the debt years, but that has changed recently. With money and new signings, there was no real reason to leave the club, which is why so few have.

Hector Bellerin was the greatest example. All of the big clubs came knocking at his door and every big club was pushed away without a second thought. When asked what Bellerin would do if Barcelona called, he said he would hang up.
That is something incredibly reassuring to lean on, knowing that such a wonderful talent isn’t going anywhere.
But that reassurance may be shaking up, as developments from the Guardian indicate that if Arsene Wenger does not stay, then Hector Bellerin will not stay. This just went from incredibly reassuring to incredibly disturbing.
This is also not the first time that we have heard this. Mesut Ozil has said the same when he noted that he could not determine his long-term future until Wenger solved his. Reports also indicate that Alexis has said the same.

It feels almost cult-like. Could Wenger really be so deeply embedded in the club and such an inspiring leader, despite the lack of major trophies and continued, recurring frustrations, that most or all of the Gunner’s major stars are ready to jump ship if Wenger goes first?
If that is the case, does that change how people feel? Would we welcome Max Allegri or Diego Simeone if it meant losing Alexis, Ozil, Bellerin and maybe more? That is one hell of a dilemma and not one that can be unraveled easily.
It would be like giving the entire team a face lift, which might be exactly what some people want. But there is a level of consistency (good or bad) to the current state of Arsenal that would not be a guarantee and that really needs to be considered.
It may be fun and exciting, but we have to admit that there is still a certain level of pride in knowing how consistent Wenger has been in a league that is not known for consistency.

It also raises the concern, though, of players seeing Wenger as bigger than the club. You play for the badge on your shirt, not the man on the sidelines. Sure there can be a combination of the two, but it’s unnerving to think that all of these guys are only here because of Wenger.
