Arsenal: Alexandre Lacazette Seemingly Only A Matter Of Time

Arsenal’s summer shopping list has had Alexandre Lacazette for quite some time. Now it seems like the clock is already ticking towards his North London future.

It isn’t all that often that we know a lot about the future of Arsenal’s transfer targets. Granit Xhaka made it easy. He spoke openly about a move, joked about it and everything. So did Arsene Wenger. No one ever denied it and that was a major thing.

Alexandre Lacazette is entering into the same sphere. He has already admitted that the time is perfect to leave Lyon. The past two summers he has openly admitted to trying to get away but various inflation kept his price in the stratosphere.

Now that the time is perfect, his price has settled to around £50m. That isn’t so bad.

We also certainly know that Arsenal made a bid for Lacazette last summer for £30m and it was rejected. I always say that if bid on a guy once, you will do it again.

There is already cause for heavy links just in what we know or almost certainly know. Lacazette is moving, Wenger has bid previously. That’s a strong rumor base.

If we expand on that to the realms of probability, it gets even more tasty. For starters, we know that the Gunner’s current striker crop doesn’t necessarily satisfy Wenger. And not just because he bid on Lacazette last summer. All of the four strikers have been rotating in and out of the position due to a lack of sustained effectiveness.

Alexis Sanchez has even been moved into a midfield role, leaving three strikers to fight it out. None of those three has any claim to a monopoly. Olivier Giroud is just one man and as just one man, no matter how useful he is, he has never been enough.

Danny Welbeck cannot score consistently. Still can’t, I should say.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

Lucas Perez is either on his way out or isn’t a preferred option for Wenger.

It’s clear that the Gunners could benefit from a new striker and given that this is a brand new Wenger, who is making changes and not looking back, the possibility for a move is very real.

Then there is the matter of Wenger admitting that the Gunners may be priced out Kylian Mbappe already. Meaning that he would therefore be priced out of every other big-market striker. Except, of course, for the man in question, Lacazette.

And now we hear that the main competitors for the Frenchman’s signature are Borussia Dortmund, Inter Milan and AC Milan. All fine clubs, absolutely, but none are in the Premier League, a destination that Lacazette called “very attractive” as of January 2016.

So let’s recap. Lacazette wants to move and now is the perfect time. Arsenal has bid on him as well as being “priced out” of nearly every other big name striker available. Wenger clearly isn’t satisfied with his striking team. Lacazette finds England very attractive while there is only one Premier League team that is after him.
