Arsenal bungled everything that has to do with Serge Gnabry and it will be remembered as one of the worst moments for Arsene Wenger.

Arsenal absolutely screwed the pooch with Serge Gnabry and I would bet a hefty sum of money that they will live to regret it. And when that times happens, Arsene Wenger will be standing by saying something along the lines of “we did all we could, oops, should have had him.”

I had avoided writing about Arsenal’s complete and utter failure regarding the Serge Gnabry situation because I was trying to stay positive in my coverage, but as today was mostly negative anyway, I figured why the hell not, let’s cross one more black eye off the list.

There is a difference narrowly missing signing a player, like the army of players Wenger openly admits to being close to, and having someone and losing him. And Gnabry was the latter.

The whole situation reeks of fishiness. The lad was a breakthrough star at 18 years old and then he is being offloaded to West Brom. Then sold to Werder Bremen and then, when he opens himself up for a return, he instead joins – of all teams – Bayern Munich.

Meaning we are going to be seeing him in the Champions League, when next we qualify for the competition.

Arsene Wenger said that he did everything he could to keep Gnabry prior to his way under-priced move to the Bundesliga. That’s what he said and frankly, we had no reason to doubt him, you know he rated the kid.

But then this summer, things changed for me. All year Gnabry had been vocal in his support of his former club, making appearances at the Emirates and everything. And, with Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil in a painful and never-ending limbo of contractual confusion, bringing in someone who has become a fan favorite like Gnabry would have been like giving a sick child a lollipop.

Rather than that, there was complete silence.

I have a hard time believing Gnabry wouldn’t have, at the very least, considered coming home. He has always spoken up about how much he loves the club.

How badly could Wenger have really wanted to keep him if he didn’t pursue bringing him back after he ‘tried to keep him?’

Maybe I’m reading too much into this, but to see a teenage sensation who was ready for first team football treated like an outcast is just baffling and one of the many things I will never understand about our boss.
