Arsenal: Sead Kolasinac the winner of the worst case scenario

Arsenal has their fair share of problems, but no problem would quite stand up to what Sead Kolasinac is capable of delivering.

Arsenal goes into their match-up against Watford with a ton of questions. Mainly defensively. With Shkodran Mustafi and Laurent Koscielny likely absent, can we count on Nacho Monreal, Per Mertesacker and Rob Holding to do their part?

And for that matter, can we count on them for these next few hectic weeks?

In the attack, how do you leave Danny Welbeck on the bench as he returns to full health? Is it time to actually bench Mesut Ozil or does he, at the very least, deserve another chance to answer his critics yet again?

All of these questions are pretty important, you’d have to say, but one question that we may not even be facing against Watford is just what the hell this team would do without Sead Kolasinac.

The Bosnian was subbed off at half during Bosnia’s match-up with Estonia and everyone feared the worst. How could the Bosnian hulk come out of the match if it wasn’t something serious? We definitely want to know the answer, but for the time being, silence is the best alternative, and that’s what we are getting out of Bosnia.

Which means that all fears are likely premature, but for the sake of talking this out, I now have to confront the aforementioned question of “what the hell will this team do without Sead Kolasinac” for my own sanity.

It’s the one question that I don’t think can be answered satisfactorily. There aren’t many places on the pitch that an injury would be damn near debilitating. Even if Alexandre Lacazette gets hurt, Olivier Giroud is ready and waiting for a chance.

Kolasinac doesn’t have an Olivier Giroud breathing down his neck. Nacho Monreal is making a living at centerback, so the answer would have to be Ainsley Maitland-Niles. Which is exciting from the standpoint that he has shown the maturity of a first-teamer, but terrifying because any situation that involves missing out on our new Bosnian is terrifying.

Kolasinac has become the backbone of the team in the sense that he is fearless, physically unstoppable and fearless (it needs to be said twice). It’s such a stark contrast to what the Gunners have been in the past.

Thankfully, let say this again, there are no reports of an injury. And while that still makes his withdrawal confusing, maybe they just wanted him to be at full fitness for Watford. That’s a joke.
