Arsenal were without several key stars for their recent 3-0 victory over Brentford and their respective statuses are in doubt for the North London Derby after the international break.

Martin Odegaard and Oleksandr Zinchenko were added to the injury list ahead of last Sunday’s trip to the Brentford Community Stadium. The pair joined Reiss Nelson, Mohamed Elneny, and Emile Smith Rowe on the sidelines but the Gunners weren’t affected against the Bees as they produced their most dominant performance of the season so far.

Summer arrival Fabio Vieira aptly filled in for Odegaard and scored on his first Premier League start, while Kieran Tierney deputised for Zinchenko and is showing signs of returning to his best form.

However, Mikel Arteta and Arsenal supporters will want a full cohort of players available for the first North London Derby of the season on 1 October.

GOAL’s Charles Watts has provided an injury update on Arsenal’s sidelined stars and offered predictions as to whether they’ll be fit for Tottenham’s trip to the Emirates.

Odegaard missed the trip to Brentford with a calf injury that has bothered him for several weeks. However, the Norwegian playmaker could yet join up with the national team over the break and is expected to be available for next Saturday’s derby.

Zinchenko’s calf injury is a little more troublesome but the club are hopeful that the versatile left-back will be available for the NLD. The former Manchester City star won’t play for Ukraine over the break, and many will be hoping that this extended resting period will allow him to recover in time for next Saturday. The injury certainly isn’t too serious.

Smith Rowe’s status is in doubt as he continues to nurse a nagging groin injury, while Elneny, who picked up a hamstring injury in the 2-1 win over Fulham, may be out until January. He won’t be taking part in the NLD, that’s for sure. Reiss Nelson, however, could make his return to Arteta’s matchday squad after missing the past six weeks with a muscle problem.

The countdown to one of the most highly-anticipated Emirates North London Derby’s of recent memory is already underway. Let’s hope and pray the Arsenal boys escape the international break unscathed.
