Arsenal have added another name to their list of potential striker targets as they are now interested in a move for Hugo Ekitike, according to multiple reports.

The Guardian claim Mikel Arteta may have turned his attention to the Eintracht Frankfurt forward due to the lack of movement in their rumoured pursuit of Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres. Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United are all among other suitors interested in securing the Frenchman's services.

Nothing is concrete yet, but it makes sense for the Gunners to have added another name to their list. With their interest in Gyokeres and Sesko dragging on, there is no harm for the club to begin considering other options, beginnign with Ekitike.

Hugo Ekitike added to Arsenal's list of striker targets

Arsenal have been in the market for a striker for a very long time now and their hunt for a deadly goalscorer is really starting to drag. Issues in respective moves for primary targets Benjamin Sesko and Gyokeres have halted any real progression that has prompted the Gunners to begin considering other options.

Ekitike suits the north London side's agenda in their search for a player who can lead the attack reliably and consistenly throughout a season, firing them from title challengers to title winners.

He scored 22 goals and provided 12 assists in 48 appearances across all competitions for Frankfurt last season, his first full campaign with the German side. His performances have attracted interest from not only Arsenal, but also other high profile clubs like Chelsea and Liverpool.

While his numbers may not be as impressive as those of Gyokeres, Ekitike is only 23-years-old and will continue to evolve and develop as his career continues. That would make him a very good long-term option for the Gunners.

His market value currently stands at €75m, according to Transfermarkt, and while that'd make him a pricy option, that is something Arsenal may just have to deal with as they look to sign a striker. Both Gyokeres and Sesko are looking likely to cost around the same, but that is something clubs simply have to expect to pay for a world-class striker.

It does make sense for Arteta's side to target a move for Ekitike. Since the transfer window first opened, they have looked to make progress on several fronts in their hunt for a striker and they can explore a move alongside ongoing negotiations for Gyokeres and Sesko. However, if Arsenal are to target a deal to sign Ekitike, they will have to act quickly due to the interest from several other clubs.
