Arsenal fans may have been handed a big clue over Jurriën Timber's potential to start the Champions League final this weekend. The Timber situation has dominated headlines ahead of the Gunners' potentially history-making clash with PSG in Budapest.

Ben White's season-ending injury means Timber is by far the best option on the right side, and it's something Arsenal simply must get right.

The Jurriën Timber situation

Arsenal's need to have a reliable right-back is highlighted by the incredible form of Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who has torn his way through every Champions League defence this season.

The left winger is arguably the best player in the world currently, based on form, and he looks to be unstoppable when he is on his game. Arsenal simply can't afford to be torched down that side, because Kvaratskhelia is a player who will beat his man and then score, rather than just providing the cross.

He has the sort of talent that can comfortably win a big game like this, and that's without factoring in Ousmane Dembélé, who is another of the best attackers in the world, who is also going to be fit and ready to play.

That's why Arsenal have been sweating over Timber, who has been dealing with an injury, but there are positive indications. The latest is the fact that Timber has been called up to the World Cup by the Netherlands, and he will jet off pretty much straight after the Champions League final to link up with their camp.

That indicates that Timber's injury is not serious and that he is at least very close to fitness ahead of this weekend's final.

We will have to wait to hear from Mikel Arteta to find out Timber's true condition, although the Spaniard could play his cards close to his chest ahead of the final and leave Timber in doubt even if he does know otherwise.

But there are several indications that Timber will be there or thereabouts come kick off. The only concern is whether the Dutchman is fully fit and able to keep up with Kvaratskhelia for the full 90 minutes, which is not easy even for a fully fit player who has not missed any action.

Heading into the final, it's clear that battle on the right side of Arsenal's defence is the main talking point, but it is Arteta's job to find a way to limit damage down that side and to force PSG to play elsewhere.
