Arsenal's wait for silverware goes on, but how much longer will this draught last? On Sunday, Mikel Arteta's team were beaten 2-0 by Manchester City in the Carabao Cup Final at Wembley, conceding two near-identical goals just four minutes apart, rarely threatening up the other end all afternoon.

This was only the Gunners' fourth defeat out of 50 matches across all competitions this season, and certainly the most painful. In fact, it was the first time Arsenal have lost by two or more goals for almost 14 months, or 410 days to be exact.

Sunday was only the 16th time in 130 outings Mikel Arteta's team have suffered defeat, these matches spread across a time frame of 805 days.

Of these loses, the EFL Cup Final was the Gunners' first by two or more goals since being dumped out of last season's Carabao Cup by Newcastle, losing both legs of that semi-final 2-0. Thus, across Arsenal's last 130 matches, only Aston Villa, Bournemouth, Newcastle twice and now Manchester City have managed to beat them by more than the odd goal.

So now, while this weekend was obviously disappointing, the Arsenal players cannot allow this to define them. Following their three previous defeats this season, Arteta's team have gone on elongated unbeaten runs of 18, 12 and 14 matches, and will require something similar.

After the international break, they return against Southampton in the FA Cup and Sporting in the Champions League, both on the road, needing to improve the mood before returning to Emirates Stadium for a crucial Premier League clash with Bournemouth. Arsenal may not be capturing the League Cup for the first time in 33 years, but there is still so much more to play for.
