Arsenal might land Julian Alvarez after all following latest transfer update

The convoluted Julian Alvarez transfer saga is final nearing its end, and Arsenal might just land the player after all.

The Gunners have been chasing a superstar forward all summer but have failed in their pursuit of multiple targets. Morgan Rogers was snatched away from them due to Chelsea's recklessness, Vinicius Junior opted to stay put, and Bradley Barcola is seemingly closing in on a switch to Liverpool.

Alvarez is the remaining superstar on the market, potentially available to the Gunners, and while not everyone is convinced that the Argentine is the right man, Mikel Arteta and Andrea Berta appear to be. Up until now, the Atleti star has reportedly closed the door on Arsenal's offer as he pushes for a switch to Barcelona.

However, Spanish outlet Marca are now reporting that, for the first time, Alvarez might have changed his mind.

Alvarez was given a hostile reception when his name was announced before Atleti's game against Villarreal at the Wanda Metropolitano at the weekend. He was also told by an Atleti official that he shouldn't go and appluad the home supporters at full-time.

Evidently, his situation in Madrid is untenable. That said, these incidents at the Metropolitano seemingly didn't initially change Alvarez's mind regarding his desire to sign for Barcelona.

However, Marca now suggest that the 26-year-old has finally opened up to the idea of signing for the Gunners and is said to be seriously considering the switch. The player was affected by the hostility he faced on Sunday, and believes he needs a move away, whilst accepting the Barcelona dream might be dead, at least for now.

Atleti want Alvarez to sack his agent and apologise to the club, with this seen as the only way of resolving the situation internally. However, it doesn't appear that the former Manchester City man is willing to take this radical approach and is weighing up his only alternative; joining the Gunners.

The issue with Arsenal has never been a sporting one, but rather question marks over lifestyle and his family situation. He and his loved ones are settled in Spain, where he speaks the language and where the weather is much more aligned with his home nation, Argentina.

If he were to return to England, he might encounter some of the same problems which prompted him to leave in the first place. That said, Arteta has reportedly spoken to Alvarez, in an attempt to convince him that living in London is very different to living in Manchester.

This message might have gotten through to the player, with the signals in Marca's report seemingly indicating that this deal might actually now be on.

Atleti are very willing to sanction Alvarez's departure to Arsenal, while the Gunners can afford the deal. It therefore literally boils down to Alvarez giving the move the green light, which looks increasingly plausible.
