Arsenal will be without Kai Havertz for the rest of the 2024/25 season after the German international tore his hamstring out in Dubai.
Havertz has divided opinion since making his move from Chelsea two summers ago, with Mikel Arteta initially struggling to fit him into the midfield role he had out for him in the wake of Granit Xhaka's departure.
However, Havertz has since provided plenty of value as the club's leading forward. While he's doubtlessly guilty of squandering big chances at inopportune times, the German ended 2023/24 behind only Bukayo Saka in Arsenal's Premier League scoring charts with 13 goals and is currently the Gunners' leading scorer this term with 15 goals in all competitions.
He's far from perfect, but Arteta appreciates what he offers while leading the line. Only two outfielders have registered more minutes for Arsenal this term, with the manager's reliance on the former Chelsea man perhaps contributing to his major injury setback.
Kai Havertz out for rest of the season with hamstring injury
🚨 Kai Havertz set to miss rest of season through injury. Arsenal forward suffered torn hamstring during training at #AFC camp in Dubai. Unclear if 25yo Germany international will require surgery but focus is getting fit for 2025-26 campaign @TheAthleticFC https://t.co/ItOTRkSsxI

Sami Mokbel's initial report broke on Tuesday regarding the hamstring injury Havertz had sustained out in Dubai, but no information was provided about the severity.
Given the scarcity of options in the frontline, we held out hope for a 'minor setback' update, but David Ornstein, who's only supplied devastating Arsenal injury news as opposed to transfer bombas in 2025, has since confirmed that Havertz has torn his hamstring.
While it's not yet been decided whether the forward will undergo surgery, as Bukayo Saka did in December, Havertz will miss the rest of the season. His focus is getting up to speed for 2025/25, where he'll hopefully have far stiffer competition for a starting berth up top.
There's no sugarcoating what an absolute disaster Havertz's injury is. Arsenal, for the next month, have three attacking options fit and available: Leandro Trossard, Raheem Sterling, and Ethan Nwaneri. The schedule does ease up, but visits to the City Ground and Old Trafford are on the horizon.
Hale End stars Nathan Butler-Oyedeji and Ismeal Kabia may also play a more prominent role until Gabriel Martinelli and Saka return from their respective hamstring issues. The pair of wingers have barely featured for the first team having made their debuts this season, but Arteta may not have a choice but to turn to the club's academy to offer his current triumvirate available respite in games.
Once again, I'm thrilled we decided not to sign anyone in January.
