Arsenal are Premier League champions. No I'm very much not tired of saying it yet, and that feeling will not subside for quite a while. On Tuesday night, as Manchester City could only manage a 1-1 draw at Bournemouth, approximately 100,000 of us congregated outside Emirates Stadium to party long into the night; a celebration 22 years in the making.

This came 24 hours on from a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Burnley, in which Kai Havertz's towering header from a Bukayo Saka expertly delivered corner was the difference. A set-piece goal and a 1-0 win was rather fitting, encapsulating two of the themes of this season.

Another recurring event that is seemingly being overlooked is quite how strong Arsenal have been at home throughout the entire campaign. Mikel Arteta's team have won all 14 home matches against teams currently seventh or below, scoring 33 goals and conceding only four. They also lead the way for all matches across a wide-variety of metrics looking at home matches.

Arsenal's tally of 47 points at home this season is the most of any team, ranked first or second for every statistic, which is a recipe for success. At the Emirates, Arteta's team have been beaten by Manchester United and Bournemouth, as well as drawing with Manchester City and Liverpool, but it is their results against the rest of the division that have propelled them forward.

As already noted, the Gunners have collected 42 points out of 42 against teams sat seventh or lower, starting with Brighton and going down the table. So, how does that compare to previous campaigns?

Amazingly, last season, Arsenal accumulated a miserly 28 points out of a possible 42 from home matches against teams finishing seventh and down. Defeats at the hands of West Ham and Bournemouth, as well as draws with Brighton, Everton, Brentford and Crystal Palace, prevented Arteta's team from ever being able to keep pace with Liverpool.

This time round, the Gunners have pretty much returned the 2023/24 levels. That season, they picked up 89 points, more than they will achieve this year, and that is inarguably the best an Arteta team has ever played, but that side did not get it over the line, which is all that matters in the end. Back then, the Gunners won 15 home league games, drawing twice and losing twice, thereby an identical record to this campaign, scoring seven more goals back then, while shipping five more in 23/24.

Two seasons ago, after draws with Fulham and Spurs early doors, they only failed to beat West Ham and Aston Villa, both of which proved to be costly defeats. In recent seasons, Arteta's team had become excellent in big games, going over three years without being beaten by a "big six" rival, before Liverpool shattered that streak on 31 August.

However, there are more points on offer against the not so good teams, and just racking up victories against opposition lower down the table is a pretty good route to glory, as this team have proven.
