The season is not over yet, but Arsenal are already planning for the future. They should do, as well. Some market opportunities are too good to pass on, and even though the team is doing well, it is clear that some upgrades are to be made rather quickly.
All season, Arsenal fans have been complaining about the attack. The defense is solid, the midfield is good, but the attack is where the Gunners lack that bite.
And fans have been rightfully talking about it online. Most of the talk has been about the left wing position. As good as Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli have been, or can be, they do lack that spark sometimes.
Sometimes, it is the inconsistency. Other times, it is the simple lack of bite. The lack of game-changingness that is needed at the highest level. They have both shown that on many occasions, but never consistently.
Arsenal signing Morgan Rogers would mean the writing is on the wall for beloved winger
Trossard, at least, has taken the left-wing spot for himself. He usually starts over Martinelli in big games. Now, if you put Morgan Rogers in this team, that is where it gets interesting fans, but not so much for one, if not both of these players.
Trossard has been good and has started most of the games on the left this season, so it is not the Belgian who would be missing out on a spot on the team if Arsenal do end up with Rogers in the summer.
Martinelli, who has been a good addition to this Arsenal team for a few years, and has given them some great moments, would have to be the one who is sold, or at least deemed surplus to requirements.
Fans love Martinelli. They know his potential. They know how good he can be. It is just that to get him to that level, Arsenal just do not have the luxury of time anymore. They are no longer a team in progress, they are fighting for Champions League wins, winning Premier League titles, making the finals of Carabao Cups.
For them, they need output at the highest level. Trossard has shown more consistency, especially in the big games, to warrant a spot in the squad. Martinelli has been better off the bench, but is not consistent at all.
So, for Arsenal, it would make more sense if Martinelli is the one who has to leave. It would also not be the best thing in the world for Trossard, whose minutes would likely be halved at the very least, but at least, he would still be playing.
Martinelli, who is already a second-choice winger, would have to think about his career if this move happens.
