Ben White started Arsenal's opening game of the season against Manchester United. However, he received a knock and was replaced by Jurrien Timber after 71 minutes. The injury then ruled him out of the Gunners' next two games.

White has since been on the bench for Mikel Arteta's side in the Premier League. However, he has featured in the Champions League and EFL Cup. Tonight, he got an unexpected start against Brentford and grasped the opportunity.

The right-back was immense in the first half as his cross set up Mikel Merino's goal that gave Arsenal the lead. White also defended well and took no chances. He linked up very well with Noni Madueke, who started on the right flank before being replaced by Bukayo Saka.

Arsenal have a strong squad but are struggling with their center-backs right now. Gabriel Magalhães and William Saliba are both currently injured. Their problem got worse when Cristhian Mosquera limped off in the first half against the Bees.

Timber, who has been Arsenal's first-choice right-back this season, came on to partner Piero Hincapié in the center of defense. The Ecuadorian also went down late in the game, which worried many Arsenal fans. White will likely now be needed to start in the upcoming games for the Gunners.

Ben White is now set to play in key fixtures for Arsenal

They face Aston Villa this Saturday lunchtime before playing Club Brugge in the Champions League the following Wednesday. The Gunners then have a busy festive period, which includes an EFL Cup quarter-final clash with Crystal Palace.

Due to his lack of game time, White may not have been picked by Thomas Tuchel for England anyway. However, after leaving the 2022 World Cup early, White has not wanted to be selected for the Three Lions.

Many fans cannot understand why a player would not want to represent his country. If White impresses in the games he is now set to start for the Gunners, then there will be calls for him to make himself available again for England.

White may have dropped out of the last World Cup, which does make him a bit of a liability. However, he may be needed as an option for England again. There are still concerns about Reece James' ability to stay fit, whilst Trent Alexander-Arnold was not included in Tuchel's most recent roster.

The Arsenal full-back earned four caps for England before his self-imposed exile. Most supporters see him as an enigma for his openness about his lack of interest in the sport.
