There have been some heated player rivalries during the Premier League era. Roy Keane versus Patrick Vieira is the one that will spring to most fans' minds. However, the former Manchester United captain and Arsenal midfielder were eventually brought together for a documentary called Best of Enemies.
Another Arsenal player, Kai Havertz, has been involved in a few altercations with a certain player during his career. Since the German played for Chelsea, he has clashed with Newcastle United's Dan Burn.
During a match at Stamford Bridge back in 2022, Burn needed stitches after an elbow from Havertz. The then Chelsea forward was not sent off and went on to score the winning goal. That same year, the two were involved in a confrontation during a match at St James' Park, which Newcastle won.
The rivalry continued since Havertz made the move to Arsenal. Havertz received a yellow card for a foul on Sean Longstaff. This led to another altercation between the German and Burn. Newcastle got the upper hand that day too as they saw off the Gunners 1-0.
Are Kai Havertz and Dan Burn now friends?
Following Arsenal's victory over Newcastle United earlier this year, the two were seen sharing a joke at the Emirates Stadium. Now, Burn has opened up on his relationship with Havertz.
The Newcastle defender told Four Four Two, "I saw him in pre-season when we played in Singapore. We had time to have a few drinks, and we saw some of the Arsenal lads. I just got chatting to him. He's actually, frustratingly enough, quite a nice guy. I had a drink with him and he's actually sound."
Arsenal beat Newcastle 3-2 in that match in Southeast Asia. Unfortunately for Havertz, he has had a knee problem this season, which has meant he has only featured on the opening day of the Premier League season.
This meant that Havertz missed Arsenal's 2-1 win over Newcastle at St James' Park. Mikel Arteta has revealed that the German is still a few weeks away from returning to action. He should be fit when the two sides meet at the Emirates next April.
We may not see Havertz much on the field going forward. He has been out for some time, whilst Arsenal have signed Viktor Gyokeres as his replacement. However, we can expect to see friendlier exchanges between him and Dan Burn in future clashes with Newcastle.
